Lead Electrical Engineer - Balfour Beatty (@one Alliance)
Location: Peterborough
@one Alliance a ground-breaking collaboration between Anglian Water and seven industry-leading partners: Balfour Beatty, Barhale, Binnies, MMB, MWH Treatment, Skanska and SWECO. Together, we deliver over half of Anglian Water's capital investment programme.
As we enter AMP8, our most ambitious Asset Management Period, we are preparing to undertake our largest project yet. This is a unique opportunity to drive industry change, set global standards, and foster career growth.
We are seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to act as the authority on Electrical Engineering within the alliance. You will provide independent advice and arbitration on quality and compliance matters, supporting Design Managers and Electrical Lead Engineers in assessing design complexities, selecting appropriate methods, and deploying skilled resources and specialists.

Key responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Drive innovative, sustainable approaches that focus on long-term outcomes over outputs.
- Represent @one Alliance as the electrical engineering expert, offering authoritative guidance on quality and compliance.
Discipline Management
- Develop and maintain procedures, standards, and guidelines that embody a "right-first-time" mindset.
- Work closely with suppliers to ensure competency and manage supplier frameworks effectively.
- Participate in asset standards governance by identifying, supporting, and approving standard products to enhance delivery efficiency and consistency.
Project Delivery
- Assist in identifying value-driven solutions during project Stage 1.
- Lead internal and external audits to verify compliance with quality standards and specifications.
- Manage the resolution of non-compliance issues, competency gaps, and procedural improvements.
- Provide expert input on complex design challenges and engage with stakeholders effectively.
Health & Safety
- Champion compliance with CDM regulations to ensure safe, compliant design practices.
- Conduct audits focused on electrical safety (e.g., HAZOP, DSEAR) and drive continuous improvements.
People & Team Development
- Offer technical leadership, mentoring, and career development support to the electrical engineering team.
- Promote professional growth and qualifications, nurturing an inclusive, respectful, and diverse working environment.
Transformation & Innovation
- Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging experimentation, learning from safe failures, and continuous improvement.
- Lead the adoption of new technologies and methods to enhance performance and sustainability.
Who we're looking for
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience in Electrical Engineering within the Water industry.
- Electrical qualifications, ideally a Chartered degree.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
- Strong leadership skills with a track record of inspiring teams and driving innovation.
- Deep understanding of sustainability, including carbon reduction and natural capital protection.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a passion for mentoring and promoting a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
