The
Principal Scientist
will lead our biomarker and proteomics research, combining oversight of day-to-day laboratory operations with hands-on laboratory work. This is a highly visible position within the company and will have a close relationship with the leadership team. What this means is that you will not only have the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to different areas of the business. But also, input directly into the scientific direction and strategy of the company. With the intention to give you the platform to use your talents fully and gain exposure to develop your career at Altheome.

The ideal candidate will bring several years of experience in the biomarker field and a strong motivation to work closely with partners, collaborators, and clients to accelerate science in the context of research, and towards clinical and commercial applications, ultimately for the betterment of patient health. With the desire to be hands on to make the most of the start up environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the scientific direction for both internal R&D programmes and collaborative projects with partners and external collaborators.
  • Oversee the set-up, organisation, and ongoing maintenance of our new laboratory and office facilities.
  • Ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the laboratory, including equipment maintenance, procurement, inventory management, and general workflow efficiency.
  • Hands on work in the laboratories in support of collaborative programmes & internal research.
  • Contribute to the company's scientific strategy, working closely with the scientific and leadership teams to shape research priorities and long-term goals.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to a small scientific team, fostering development and high-quality scientific output.
  • Complete ad – hoc tasks as acquired.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Neurology, Immunology, or related fields.
  • 5+ years in the biomarker or proteomics space. Strong understanding of biomarker discovery and validation for clinical and translational research.
  • Experience with immunoassay formats (ELISA, chemiluminescence) is highly preferable, and additional formats including enzymatic assays, and molecular techniques (qPCR, sequencing) are desirable.
  • Experience interacting with partners, collaborators, internal and external stakeholders, including project scoping and delivery.
  • Strong project management and prioritisation skills in a fast-faced, startup environment.
  • Familiarity with LIMS and data management systems
  • Knowledge and experience working within regulatory frameworks (e.g., FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, GCP, HTA) preferred but not essential.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (Excel, GraphPad Prism, or statistical software).
  • Experience with Design of Experiment (DoE) preferential but not essential.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • A track record of publications, patents, and contributions to grant applications.
  • Experience managing vendor relationships, negotiating supplier contracts, and budget control, is desirable.
