We are looking for a Health and Safety Risk Adviser, to join our forward thinking and motivated team of H&S professionals working across North Yorkshire and beyond.

Our aim is to empower our clients and teams to make informed decisions about anything relating to health and safety.

We work very closely with schools to encourage them to bring variety and practical elements into their student learnings, e.g school trips, practical science classes, whilst working safely.

The Role

You will work across the education sector to support and improve health and safety and helping to embed positive safety cultures. You will support our clients to provide safe educational environments that encourages learning.

This role is varied and whilst knowledge of health and safety in educational environments and/or fire safety would be an advantage we will consider your application whatever your health and safety background.

You'll be out and about in the west of our county and beyond. Your work will be split between these site visits and working from your home. If you prefer, you can also work from one of our NYC offices

As a Health and Safety Risk Adviser you will have good negotiation skills to advise on health and safety both statutory requirements and best practice to support our clients to continuously improve and make a difference.

You will be supported by an innovative team of H&S professionals with a wide variety of knowledge and experience, where you are able to influence but also develop your own professional skills. We are committed to supporting you in this by providing opportunities for training and mentoring.

This role is career graded, and to achieve the JK grade and pay we expect a degree of additional specialism. You'll also be involved in, and occasionally lead on:

  • Using insights from audits, inspections, and incident reports to create smarter, safer ways of working when current methods aren't up to scratch.

Investigate significant accidents or near misses, then

  • clear findings and practical recommendations to prevent future issues.

  • Deliver engaging Health and Safety briefings using a variety of styles to make sure everyone understands and feels involved.

What you will bring:

In your supporting evidence, please include evidence of:

  • A level 3 Accredited Occupational Safety and Health Course (recognised by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) (or equivalent - Equivalence will be the mix of qualifications and/or experience that has or can achieve Certified membership of IOSH)
