Role Summary:
LCCC internships in the Analytics team provide an opportunity for successful candidates to contribute to some of the UK's most exciting and high-profile Net Zero programmes and projects. These roles also offer the chance to support innovative low-carbon schemes driving progress toward the UK's 2050 Net Zero target.
During the 6-12 month internship, the Energy Analyst Intern will have the opportunity to work on the planning, development and operation of LCCC's scheme forecasting models. The team works collaboratively with specialist teams where appropriate such as modelling, data engineering and project management. In addition to scheme forecasting the team directly supports other internal teams with analytical deep-dives and modelling required throughout the year, producing data insights that help the business make informed choices using the best available data and ultimately impact government policy.
The ideal candidate for the Energy Analyst Internship will have an understanding of energy market fundamentals and will be able to demonstrate a high level of analytical competence. They will be required to take on complex challenges with a sense of urgency and enthusiasm, developing and communicating data insights in a clear and succinct way. Furthermore the candidate will be adaptable and curious, with a strong willingness to learn and develop.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform operational forecasting, including maintaining the model inputs
- Investigate and report on variances between forecast and out-turns
- Ensure continuous improvements of the forecasting tools and processes, based on troubleshooting, lessons learned, energy market development, and policy changes
- Provide general modelling and analysis as required
- Review and collate industry wide data sources and policy development news
- Assist with reporting and interpreting KPIs and other performance metrics
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
Essential:
- A 2:1 degree (or expected for those in their penultimate year) or higher degree in a highly numerate subject is essential. Examples include (but are not limited to): Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Operational Research and other quantitative STEM subjects.
The below experiences can be gained from your academic work, extracurricular or job experiences:
- Proficiency in programming languages for data analysis such as Python or R.
- Highly analytical and strong critical thinker
- The ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in person and through written output
Desirable:
- Experience with data visualisation tools (such as Power BI)
- Interest and/or proven exposure in the Electricity sector
