Our client is a leading multidisciplinary consultancy renowned for delivering innovative engineering and environmental solutions across the UK and internationally. They are looking for Principal Engineer to join their enthusiastic and friendly Structures team in Birmingham. As an integral member of the diverse team, you'll have the opportunity to play a major role in delivering schemes across a huge range of sectors.
You will be focused on building structures, lead on either large single projects or multiple smaller projects, balancing independent work with the management of resources to deliver effectively. Reporting to an Associate or Director, you will ensure projects are delivered on time and to technical standards, while supporting junior engineers and promoting best practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality engineering designs, drawings, and specifications.
- Supervise and review work of design staff, providing mentorship and training.
- Lead and check structural design work across a range of projects.
- Manage and coordinate with clients, contractors, and other disciplines.
- Contribute to setting and maintaining technical standards and best practice.
- Support project management, including resource planning, budgets, and fee control.
- Encourage team collaboration, professional development, and compliance with IMS and health & safety standards.
Requirements
Person Qualifications
- Degree qualified Chartered Engineer (or equivalent background, typically 8+ years).
- Strong technical competence in structural engineering.
- Commercial awareness with ability to manage budgets and fees.
- Proven ability to run projects and lead teams.
- Strong communication, interpersonal and mentoring skills.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge to create practical solutions.
- Reliable, self-motivated, with a responsible attitude to work.

- Business development through strong performance and client relationships.
- Technical leadership in structural design, reporting, and site inspections.
- Team leadership, mentoring, and effective communication.
- Sound understanding of CDM regulations and health & safety requirements.
