Housekeeper – Permanent

Hours – 16 hours per week, Monday – Friday – 15.15 – 18.30

Salary - £12.21 per hour

Location: Harborne, Birmingham

Start date: ASAP

Additional Information – whilst the role is predominately a housekeeping role the successful candidate will be required to assist in a kitchen during periods of absence for kitchen staff. To support during annual leave and sickness for the catering department in preparing the food for Service Users and staff for the safe and effective operation of the facilities at Focus Birmingham. Full Training will be provided

Kitchen Hours – 10.45 – 14.00

Flexibility to work different shifts at short notice is required.

The purpose of the Housekeeper is to assist the Facilities Manager in ensuring the day-to-day cleaning standards of Focus Birmingham are met.

Service Delivery

  • Carry out all cleaning duties as directed by the Facilities Manager to the required Focus Standards
  • Cleaning duties can be in any area of the organisation
  • Ensure that daily and deep cleaning schedules are adhered to
  • Maintain a high standard of personal presentation and hygiene
  • Ensure that all cleaning equipment is correctly and safely used and kept in a safe condition
  • Report any defect to the Facilities Manager
  • Carry out any other reasonable instructions of the Facilities Manager
  • To be sensitive to the privacy and individual needs of our Service Users
  • To comply with COSHH regulations
  • To ensure the correct use of PPE
  • To follow the correct use of colour code systems within the organisation
  • Carry out other ad hoc duties as requested by the Facilities Manager
  • To ensure all necessary documentation is completed daily
  • To ensure trolleys are re-stocked at the end of shift and cleaning cupboards are left clean and tidy

Maintenance of cleaning materials and equipment

  • Ensure cleaning material levels are maintained and any orders passed to Facilities Manager
  • Ensure all cleaning products are used correctly
  • To ensure team uniform is clean and worn for every shift to company standards

Health and Safety

  • Ensure and support the Health and Safety guidelines in place, i.e. Infection control policies and procedures and report any breaches to the Facilities Manager
  • Record Information relating to Health and Safety for audit purposes.
  • Report any maintenance issues to Facilities Manager on a daily basis
  • Ensure reportable incidents/accidents are reported to the Facilities Manager
  • Ensure timely delivery of cleaning and checks and ensure they are maintained daily; ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and guidance
  • Comply with COSHH regulations ensuring data sheets are updated for any cleaning material used
  • Work with the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures and training including COVID-19 protocols in place and mandatory Focus Training
  • Learn and understand the principles and practice of the fire procedure e.g. drills, evacuation plan.
  • Undertake any training prior to commencement of role i.e. manual handling, safeguarding of adults, infection control.

Food Quality Service & Safe Working Practice

On occasion you will required to provide cover in the kitchen, this will be to cover absence. Prior notice will be provided and full training will also be provided. These additional hours will also be paid at £12.21 hourly

  • Ensuring food deliveries are received in accordance with temperature guidelines
  • Food deliveries to be put away in accordance with daily storage system
  • Daily food to be picked in accordance with Service User's order and dietary needs
  • Meals to be regenerated as per the instructions
  • Ovens to be maintained as per the user manual
  • Traceability information to be documented
  • To ensure meals are regenerated to the correct temperature and all control procedures are carried out in line with Company procedure and legislation

Person Specification

  • Good standard of education including competency in English and Mathematics
  • Experience and general understanding of Health and Safety processes and procedures and legislation including COSHH
  • Able to work accurately in a clear and precise way to meet strict deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Commitment to providing a responsive service in line with departmental and Charity-wide objectives
  • Ability to work proactively as a member of a team, to work supportively and effectively with colleagues
  • Takes a proactive approach to the needs of customers
  • Knowledge of online learning
  • Willingness to work outside of normal working hours to cover shifts in the event of absences
  • Clear DBS and a minimum of 2 references
  • Must be able to attend mandatory training sessions and meetings outside of shift hours where necessary
  • To assist with any other duties as requires by the Facilities Manager not already included in this job description
