Exciting Opportunity for an ECT DT Teacher (Food Technology) in a Supportive State School

Are you an enthusiastic Food Technology Teacher (ECT) ready to start your teaching career in a dynamic and inclusive state school? We are looking for a passionate Food Technology Teacher (ECT) to join our supportive Design and Technology Department, where you'll have the opportunity to develop your skills and inspire students in the world of food technology and culinary arts.

About the School

Our state school offers a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student is encouraged to explore their potential. The Design and Technology (DT) Department plays a key role in helping students develop practical skills and a deep understanding of the world around them. As an ECT DT Teacher (Food Technology), you will be joining a collaborative team that is dedicated to fostering creativity and practical learning in students.

The Role

As an ECT DT Teacher (Food Technology), you will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons in food technology to students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, with the potential for teaching Key Stage 5. This is a fantastic opportunity for a newly qualified teacher to hone their skills in a supportive environment while igniting students' passion for food, nutrition, and culinary arts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and Delivering Lessons: As an ECT DT Teacher (Food Technology), you will plan and deliver dynamic lessons that cover essential topics like nutrition, food preparation techniques, and culinary science, using a practical approach to learning.

  • Skills Development: Help students develop key culinary skills such as cooking techniques, food safety, and presentation. You'll inspire them to think creatively and engage in hands-on learning.

  • Assessing Student Progress: Regularly assess students' practical and theoretical work and provide constructive feedback to help them grow and improve.

  • Promoting Healthy Eating and Sustainability: Encourage students to consider the impact of food choices on health, the environment, and sustainability.

  • Collaboration: Work with other DT staff to develop and share resources, teaching strategies, and best practices to ensure a high standard of education across the department.

  • Extra-Curricular Activities: Contribute to the school's extra-curricular activities, including cooking clubs, food-related projects, and school events, providing students with opportunities to engage with food technology beyond the classroom.

What We Are Looking For in an ECT DT Teacher (Food Technology)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated ECT DT Teacher (Food Technology) who is passionate about food education and eager to grow in the teaching profession.

  • Qualifications: A degree in Food Technology, Home Economics, or a related field, along with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) (or in the process of obtaining it).

  • Passion for Food Technology: You should have a genuine passion for food, cooking, and nutrition, and a strong desire to inspire students in these areas.

  • Engaging Teaching Style: You'll need to bring creativity and energy to your lessons, engaging students in both the practical and theoretical aspects of food technology.

  • Collaborative Attitude: You'll be working closely with a team of DT teachers, so being able to collaborate, share ideas, and support your colleagues is key.

  • Commitment to Student Development: A focus on helping students succeed and develop their skills is essential. You should be patient, supportive, and eager to help every student reach their full potential.

Why Join Us as an ECT DT Teacher (Food Technology)?
  • Bespoke ECT Support: As an ECT DT Teacher (Food Technology), you will receive a structured induction and mentoring programme, ensuring you have the support and resources to thrive in your first year of teaching.

  • Professional Development: We are committed to your ongoing professional growth and provide a range of training and development opportunities to help you succeed.

  • Collaborative Team: Work alongside experienced colleagues who will share their expertise and support you as you continue to develop your teaching practice.

  • Modern Facilities: Our DT department is well-equipped with modern kitchens and other facilities to help bring your lessons to life and provide students with the best possible learning environment.

  • Excited and Motivated Students: Teach students who are enthusiastic about learning food technology and who are eager to develop both their theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

How to Apply

If you are an ECT DT Teacher (Food Technology) who is passionate about inspiring students to explore the world of food and cooking, we would love to hear from you. Please submit your CV and a cover letter detailing your qualifications, experience (if applicable), and your approach to teaching food technology.
