Job overview

Band 7 – Maternity Cover

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Band 7 clinician to provide maternity cover within our service. The successful candidate will have proven experience in team management and demonstrate leadership skills to support and develop staff effectively.

In addition, candidates must have prior specialty experience at Band 6 level in at least two of the following areas:

  • Renal
  • Haematology/Oncology
  • Amputees

This role requires a dynamic and adaptable individual with strong clinical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.

Main duties of the job

This role involves both team leadership and the provision of specialist physiotherapy to patients with complex needs arising from conditions such as Diabetes, Kidney Failure, and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).

The successful candidate will:

  • Manage and support a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating a strong leadership approach and effective communication skills.
  • Provide expert physiotherapy assessment and treatment for patients with complex presentations related to long-term conditions.
  • Offer teaching and mentorship to junior and unqualified staff working within the rotational system.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of discharge pathways and actively promote efficient patient flow within a high-pressure clinical environment.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across specialties to ensure high standards of patient care and service delivery.
Working for our organisation

St George's, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a population of around four million people across South West London and North East Surrey.

Our sites include:

  • St George's Hospital, one of only 11 Major Trauma Centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the region.
  • St Helier Hospital, home to the renowned South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children.
  • Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).

Following years of successful collaboration, our two Trusts formally became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as separate organisations, this partnership enables us to strengthen collaboration in research, education, training, and the continued development of our 17,000-strong workforce.

At GESH, we are committed to supporting flexible working arrangements and promoting a healthy work-life balance. Applicants are encouraged to discuss any flexibility they may need during the recruitment process.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • Undertake comprehensive physiotherapy assessments for renal and amputee patients, considering medical, functional, psychological, and social factors.
  • Develop and deliver individualised treatment plans to address mobility, strength, endurance, respiratory function, balance, and functional independence.
  • Provide rehabilitation for patients experiencing deconditioning due to renal disease, dialysis treatment, prolonged hospital admission, or surgery.
  • Support amputee patients through pre-operative conditioning, early post-operative management, stump shaping and care, gait re-education, wheelchair skills, and long-term functional rehabilitation.
