Eastern Atlantic Helicopters is a dynamic, growing aviation business specialising in helicopter sales, maintenance, and management. We're now looking for a hands-on and detail-oriented Financial Controller to take ownership of our day-to-day finance operations and help drive our continued growth.

Role Overview

The Financial Controller will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company's financial administration, from bookkeeping and payroll to management reporting. This is a key role in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and integrity of our financial systems.

You'll work closely with the Managing Director, Engineering Manager and operations team, providing accurate financial insight to support decision-making and maintain compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all day-to-day bookkeeping using
    Xero
    , including accounts payable, receivable, and bank reconciliations.
  • Oversee and process
    Sage payroll
    for all staff, ensuring accuracy and timely submission of PAYE, NI, and pension contributions.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly
    VAT returns
    and other HMRC filings.
  • Maintain and reconcile all balance sheet accounts and control schedules.
  • Manage expense claims, company credit cards, and supplier payments.
  • Support annual budgeting and monthly cashflow forecasting.
  • Prepare monthly
    management accounts
    and provide variance analysis.
  • Prepare year-end accounts and submissions to relevant authorities including corporation tax returns.
  • Perform company secretarial duties.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal financial controls.
  • Support the team with ad-hoc financial analysis, reports, and process improvements.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Proven experience as a company accountant, bookkeeper, or financial controller.
  • Proficiency with Xero accounting software.
  • Experience with Sage Payroll (or similar payroll systems).
  • Strong understanding of UK accounting principles, VAT, and PAYE.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and time management.
  • Strong Excel and data management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Desirable:

  • Part-qualified or fully qualified (AAT / ACCA / CIMA).
  • Experience in aviation, engineering, or related industries.
  • Familiarity with project-based accounting and cost analysis.
