Reporting into our Head of Proposition Development we're looking for a Retail Proposition Development Manager to take a lead role in ensuring growth development activity across Smiths News is delivered in line with the company ambitions. A key member of the Strategy & Change team you will seek to nurture new propositions, from inception to BAU, utilising your skill, experience and the broader business resources. Our primary development agenda focuses on utilising our current network and resources to generate revenue. As such, this role will need to be active in the retail community, very specifically the independent base, building understanding and relationships that allow us to offer the solutions and services our customers really need. Once propositions are under development, effective early life account management of new clients is paramount. Therefore, this role will be accountable for delivering excellent account management that ensures new clients remain informed, engaged and ready to grow with Smiths News
About the Role
- Delivery of your objectives relating to the Strategy & Growth PDM and overall business ambition.
- Support the Head of Proposition Development through review, recommendation and delivery of the appropriate systems and processes required to deliver overall proposition development objectives.
- Effectively coordinate business stakeholders and associated resources to deliver objectives.
- Lead, where required, working groups/Steerco responsible for delivery of new business, proposition development or process review.
- Support the development of proposals for the new business propositions under your remit that nurture business opportunities and partnerships, sustainably feeding the growth proposition pipeline.
- Maintain engaged customers, clients and partners as to facilitate proposition development, new business and deliver revenue required.
- Seek to exceed the financial targets, revenue and contribution, associated with new propositions under your remit.
- Ensure excellent cost control across propositions is maintained and aligned to budget, highlighting financial risk to the business where it occurs.
- Instigating tight financial controls to ensure timely payment of client invoices and close management of debt.
- Work closely with the Head of Proposition Development, Financial Business Partner and wider Growth Team to create robust proposition business cases and clear understanding of opportunities.
- Lead all proposition related account or client engagement/management under your remit.
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with proposition related opportunities.
- Create and communicate appropriate reporting of proposition metrics.
- Effectively communicate and report on propositions at all levels.
- Effectively engage internally and externally through strong interpersonal and stakeholder management behaviours.
- Developing external relationships through effective networking.
- Support of the businesses overall strategic direction for growth.

About you
- A driven, self-motivated individual with business development, client management and commercial experience underpinned by strong commercial acumen.
- A creative and innovative mindset, open to change and always looking for opportunity.
- A clear curiosity in our areas of focus, and an ability to build external relationships that help us understand more about our customers
- The ability to work cross functionally with excellent collaborative skills is critical to the success of the role.
- Highly articulate with credibility and gravitas to work effectively in multi discipline teams to foster strong partnerships across the business
- A strong customer service approach with excellent levels of engagement and influence with senior leadership teams both internally and externally
- A results-driven approach to work, proven personal initiative and an ability to work proactively and with a strong sense of urgency
- Organised and a confident communicator able to bring clarity to complex issues and build consensus behind propositions
