Children Residential Support Worker

Barnard Castle DL BN, United Kingdom Duty of Care Limited Full time

Working in our Residential Children's Homes is a reward within itself, it means being part of a young person's story who has not had the best start in life, giving them love and the right environment to allow them to grow. Our residential support workers are key for the young people we support, as they enable them to get back their childhood, make memories and create a nurturing network around them in order for them to face the adult world, which is an all-round rewarding role.

Established in 2009, Duty of Care Limited provides high quality care for children and young people with emotional, behavioural and social difficulties. This means at times the role can be challenging, both physically and emotionally which we as a company recognise and ensure support is readily available with the management team having an open-door policy. The company provides a therapeutic service to our young people and staff, meaning we have psychological input to gain a deeper understanding of trauma and the impact this has on our young people. A therapeutic approach allows us to work together to support the young people in making attachments, and to understand the reasons why behaviour can be displayed rather than focusing on the behaviour itself. This allows our young people to feel safe and understood by focusing on playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy which in turn allows the young people to build trust with caregivers and develop healthy coping mechanisms, especially when dealing with challenging behaviours or traumatic experiences.

Your role will be to take care of our young people as any family home would. Day to day activities include helping the young people get ready for school, helping with homework, cooking, cleaning and being a positive role model. Evenings and weekends are for fun where a range of activities take place such as horse riding, BMX club, days out/holidays, at home activities, cinemas, trampolining, swimming, football, go karting to name a few but the list is extensive depending on the likes and interests of each young person. The key is to tap into each person's need, wants and potential and then guide them to a positive fulfilling future. Working at Duty of care will never be dull
