Harm Outside the Home Practitioners
Are you passionate about protecting vulnerable children and leading innovative safeguarding strategies?
Join Birmingham Children's Trust as one of our HOTH Practitioners under the Head of Service for Contextual Safeguarding and make a real difference in the lives of children and families across our city.
As a HOTH Practitioner, you will strengthen the Trust's focus on safeguarding children at risk of exploitation, harm, and violence beyond the home environment. You will develop and implement district-based, exploitation-focused strategies, working collaboratively with the Empower U hub and a wide range of partners to address risks in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate Team Around the Family (TAF) meetings, working with families and partner agencies to develop outcome-focused plans for change.
- Undertake joint work, interventions, and visits within districts where concerns relate to harm outside of the family home.
- Provide expertise, guidance, and local training on exploitation, raising awareness and delivering briefings on localised concerns.
- Collaborate with children, families, and partner organisations to develop, execute, and evaluate plans that improve outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records of all interventions, meetings, and interactions.
- Gather and coordinate intelligence to support interventions, disrupt perpetrators, and protect children.
- Build positive relationships with individuals, groups, and communities affected by exploitation, even where there is resistance.
- Conduct locality assessments and recommend evidence-based interventions to address identified issues.
- Maximise impact by engaging with schools, youth services, police, social care, and early help teams, including joint visits and coordinated outreach.
- Support the creation of community profiles to identify protective factors, enhance partnerships, and build local resilience.
- Conduct community walkabouts to foster relationships with children, parents, carers, residents, and local organisations.
About You
- A genuine passion for safeguarding children harmed outside of the family home.
- A strategic leader with substantial experience in safeguarding, exploitation, and multi-agency partnership working.
- Trauma-informed and culturally competent approach.
- Proven ability to drive service improvement and deliver positive outcomes for children and families.
If you are ready to take on this challenging and rewarding role, we want to hear from you.
Please submit your CV and a supporting statement/application outlining your suitability for the role

Depending on the role, you may be asked to undergo the appropriate level of Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to assess your suitability for working with children and young people.
The level of check (Standard, Enhanced, or Enhanced with Barred List) is determined based on the specific responsibilities of the role and the level of contact with children and young people.
We are committed to the fair treatment of all applicants, including those with criminal records. Having a criminal record will not necessarily bar an individual from working with us. This will depend on the nature of the position and the circumstances and background of the offence.
