, to join their dynamic and dedicated Criminal Defence team.

You will manage a broad caseload of criminal matters, representing clients from police station through to Crown Court. The successful candidate will combine strong advocacy and client care skills with a commitment to delivering high-quality legal representation to all clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of criminal defence matters, from police station representation through to trial.
  • Provide advice and representation at the police station, Magistrates' Court, and Crown Court (as appropriate).
  • Attend clients at police stations on rota or call-out as part of the duty scheme.
  • Prepare case files, briefs to counsel, and all supporting documentation.
  • Conduct advocacy in the Magistrates' Court and liaise with barristers for Crown Court matters.
  • Liaise effectively with clients, counsel, police, witnesses, and court staff.
  • Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency (LAA) regulations and internal case management procedures.
  • Maintain the highest standards of client care and professional ethics.
  • Contribute to the development of the criminal department and support junior team members where required.

About You

  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with a current practising certificate.
  • Duty Solicitor Accreditation (preferred / essential depending on role).
  • Strong advocacy skills and experience representing clients in court and police stations.
  • Sound understanding of criminal law, procedure, and legal aid processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage a demanding caseload.
  • Empathetic, resilient, and committed to achieving the best outcomes for clients.
