Criminal Solicitor
, ideally
Duty Solicitor Accredited
, to join their dynamic and dedicated Criminal Defence team.
You will manage a broad caseload of criminal matters, representing clients from police station through to Crown Court. The successful candidate will combine strong advocacy and client care skills with a commitment to delivering high-quality legal representation to all clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a varied caseload of criminal defence matters, from police station representation through to trial.
- Provide advice and representation at the police station, Magistrates' Court, and Crown Court (as appropriate).
- Attend clients at police stations on rota or call-out as part of the duty scheme.
- Prepare case files, briefs to counsel, and all supporting documentation.
- Conduct advocacy in the Magistrates' Court and liaise with barristers for Crown Court matters.
- Liaise effectively with clients, counsel, police, witnesses, and court staff.
- Ensure compliance with Legal Aid Agency (LAA) regulations and internal case management procedures.
- Maintain the highest standards of client care and professional ethics.
- Contribute to the development of the criminal department and support junior team members where required.
About You
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with a current practising certificate.
- Duty Solicitor Accreditation (preferred / essential depending on role).
- Strong advocacy skills and experience representing clients in court and police stations.
- Sound understanding of criminal law, procedure, and legal aid processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage a demanding caseload.
- Empathetic, resilient, and committed to achieving the best outcomes for clients.
