(£50,135 Development, £55,301 Competent B)
Hours of Work: 42 hour rota/Flexible Duty Rota
Shropshire Fire & Rescue Service is a Combined Fire Authority made up from members of Shropshire Council and Telford and Wrekin Council and delivers a service to over 480,000 residents. This population is spread over 1,346 square miles, with the busy towns of Shrewsbury and Telford at its center. This sparsity, combined with the challenges of two growing vibrant towns, creates a challenging and interesting risk profile.
We are seeking dynamic, adaptable, and resilient individuals to join our Service in various Station Manager Roles upcoming in 2026. This is a great opportunity to work for a public service provider with a progressive culture that invests in the training, development, and wellbeing of its employees.
The roles will be based at Service Headquarters or Telford Central Station. Applications are invited from current Station Managers and competent Wholetime Watch Managers who can demonstrate the range of operational and managerial competencies required to operate at Station Manager level as set out in the appropriate fire and rescue service role maps.
Applicants must have completed, or be working towards, the ILM Level 5 Leadership and Management qualification, or equivalent.
Watch Managers will be expected to carry out our Station Manager CPG process as part of the shortlisting selection process. The Career Progression Gateway (CPG) is an online assessment process consisting of two assessments – a written Case Study and a 1:1 Online Role Play hosted via MS Teams. These assessments are marked against the 'Leading the Function' behaviours, as set out in the NFCC Leadership framework behaviours.
Candidates successful at shortlist will be invited to sit the CPG process. These assessments will take place on 19 and 20 January 2026 at Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service HQ in Shrewsbury.
Closing date for applications is 17:00 on Thursday 1 January 2026.
Please note that it is your personal responsibility to check whether by applying/accepting this position it would result in any Lifetime/Annual Allowance implications. A breach in the Lifetime/Annual Allowance threshold could result in a Tax charge. Further information can be obtained from your Pensions team.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service have a strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion at work. We want to reflect the communities we service and therefore we positively welcome applicants from disabled people and minority groups who are under-represented in our Service.
