AIS is looking for a Research & Development Technician to join our Research & Development team on a 12-month fixed term contract, based at our Gloucester office. As an R&D Technician, you will be assisting with the development and testing of composite subsea insulation and passive fire protection materials.

What You Will Do As Our R&D Technician

  • Assisting with preparation of samples and prototyping
  • Assisting with mixing of materials
  • Establishing and maintaining test procedures and methods of test for materials, finished and part-finished products
  • Assisting with material development as required and conduct physical properties testing of material properties on new materials
  • Ensuring all equipment is kept in good order and suitable calibrated/serviced
  • Carry out weekly inspections and housekeeping of the R&D shop floor area and ensuring storage is organised
  • Ensure that HSE requirements are met for chemicals stored in the R&D shop floor area
  • Keep accurate records of all test results so they can be retrieved and reviewed at any time
  • Assist with risk and COSHH assessments where required

  • Able to demonstrate high attention to detail
  • Confident and proactive in their approach to work
  • Understanding and experienced in working with composites in manufacturing
  • Knowledgeable of woodworking machinery
  • Able to work effectively and consistently to high standards of accuracy and quality
  • Be proactive with communicating to the R&D coordinator for support
  • Proficient in clear, written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Aware of Health and Safety practices
  • Able to work in both a laboratory and factory environment
