Job Description

Post title: Nursery Nurse/Assistant/Play worker

Post qualification level 2/3

Accountable to: Pre-School and Nursery Management

Responsible for: Childcare and Education

Role Purpose

To provide a high standard and quality of care for children aged 0-12 years of age within Pippins and Kidz star club. The post holder will be an essential part of the nursery team delivering flexible, high quality, care, play and education that meets the needs of all children.

Key Duties

1. To work in partnership with the Pre-School and Nursery Manager and other colleagues to plan high quality learning opportunities, appropriate for the age range of children attending the nursery and Kidz star club.

2. To be a positive role model, to aid children's development by offering a balanced level of support and stimulation through play.

3. Have an understanding of child development.

4. To support and assist with the delivery of an Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and play work principles.

5. Assist in the preparation, clearing and cleaning up of activities.

6. To be flexible and undertake a variety of duties according to the rota e.g. food and drink, nappies, observation and activity – completion of activity sheet with individual comments.

7. To take an active role in sharing all activities with children and their parents, monitoring and observing their development and contributing to the planning of the programme which caters for their needs.

8. Implement positive management of children's behaviour adhering to the settings policy.

9. To promote children's confidence, self-esteem and independence and help children develop positive relationships with others.

10. Ensure that all children are treated with equal respect and that each child's racial origin, cultural, religious, and linguistic background is promoted and individual needs are met.

11. To have key person responsibility for particular children within the nursery by interacting and forming a strong attachment.

12. Ensure that all Key children have an accurate up to date record of their learning and achievements.

13. Support a child's transition.

14. To work closely with parents and other professionals and organisations.

15. To work in partnership with parents, including attending parent's meetings, encouraging them to participate in all aspects of their children's progress and development such as two year checks and individual educational plans.

16. Read, understand, implement and adhere to all the settings policies, procedures and codes of practice.

17. Keep accurate records and reports in accordance with Nursery policies/procedures e.g. Parents comments, accident and existing injuries etc.

18. Safeguarding of children- to be able to respond appropriately to significant changes in children's behaviour, deterioration in their general well-being, unexplained bruising, marks or signs of possible abuse, signs of neglect and comments children make which give cause for concern.

19. To contribute to the Self Evaluation form and be reflective practitioners.

20. To undertake regular supervisory meetings and an annual appraisal.

21. Have an awareness of the Ofsted inspection process.

22. All information regarding the children, their families and practitioners must be kept completely confidential.

23. To keep updated with core training and enthusiastic to continue professional development.

Teamwork

1. Support all practitioners and engage in positive team morale.

2. To ensure that the pre-school, nursery, before and after school club is a safe environment for children, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practised.

3. To contribute to and implement to all Pippins and Kidz star club policies and procedures.

4. To complete statutory training required to comply with regulations and standards. To be involved in out of working hours activities e.g. attend desirable and development training, best practice / planning meetings, parents evenings, summer trips as required.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From £12.21 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
