Job Purpose

To plan, organize, and deliver a varied and engaging program of social, recreational, and therapeutic activities that enhance the physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing of residents. The Activity Coordinator ensures that all activities are person-centred and inclusive, promoting independence, self-esteem, and enjoyment for residents of all abilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and Deliver Activities:

Develop and implement a weekly and monthly schedule of activities, including group events, one-to-one sessions, outings, and seasonal celebrations.

  • Person-Centred Care:

Tailor activities to meet the interests, abilities, and cultural backgrounds of individual residents.

  • Engagement:

Encourage participation by building positive relationships with residents and motivating them to take part in activities.

  • Wellbeing Focus:

Support residents' physical and cognitive health through meaningful engagement — such as arts and crafts, music, reminiscence sessions, exercise classes, gardening, games, and social events.

  • Community Involvement:

Foster links with local community groups, schools, and volunteers to enhance the range of activities available.

  • Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate records of attendance, preferences, and outcomes for each resident, and contribute to care plans where relevant.

  • Teamwork:

Work closely with care staff, volunteers, and families to ensure activities are integrated into residents' overall care and wellbeing.

  • Health & Safety:

Ensure all activities are conducted in line with health and safety policies and safeguarding procedures.

  • Events & Celebrations:

Organize special events such as birthdays, holidays, and themed days to enrich the home's social atmosphere.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience working in a care, health, or community setting (desirable).
  • Creative, enthusiastic, and compassionate approach to supporting older people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and adapt activities to meet diverse needs.
  • Basic IT and record-keeping skills.
  • Understanding of person-centred care principles.
  • A relevant qualification (e.g., NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or Activity Provision) is desirable but not essential.
