Field Service Engineer – Utility-Scale Battery Storage

Full Time

Northern England – Field Based (Regional Coverage)

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a fast-growing UK Operations & Maintenance business as a Field Service Engineer, supporting a 1.8GW portfolio of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) assets across Northern England.

Reporting to the Service Supervisor, you will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of planned preventative maintenance and unplanned reactive maintenance activities on large-scale BESS assets. You will travel between operational sites within your region in a company-provided vehicle, carrying out a mixture of scheduled and reactive works. A flexible approach to working patterns is therefore required.

There is also a requirement to participate in a 24/7 on-call rota as part of the Field Service Engineering team.

Field Service Engineers are expected to act in an ambassadorial capacity, representing the company on site and demonstrating high technical and professional standards at all times.

Why Join Us?

We operate and maintain one of the UK's largest utility-scale battery storage portfolios, playing a critical role in supporting grid stability and the UK's transition to a low-carbon energy system.

We are proud to be building a technically strong, safety-focused engineering organisation, underpinned by high standards, continuous improvement and long-term career development. We are looking for individuals who want to grow with the business and develop into senior technical and authorised roles.

What We Offer

We offer strong development opportunities and a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Company van and fuel card (personal use permitted)
  • Paid overtime
  • Annual company bonus
  • Extensive in-house training and development, including BESS and HV pathways
  • Clear progression to Senior Engineer and HV Authorised Person roles

What You Will Be Doing

  • Comply with all relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation applicable to the role
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive maintenance on utility-scale BESS assets
  • Use diagnostic tools and procedures to identify faults and implement effective corrective actions
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call rota, providing emergency response support
  • Compile technical reports following completion of works, detailing findings and actions taken
  • Supervise and coordinate contractors during maintenance and corrective works
  • Support site activities relating to outages, repairs and asset performance improvement
  • Build and maintain strong professional relationships with clients, asset owners and suppliers

Who We're Looking For

This is a field-based role covering operational sites across Northern England. Candidates may be based anywhere from the Midlands through to the North West, provided they are able to travel effectively within the region.

The position is technically and physically demanding and requires a disciplined individual capable of delivering the high standards expected within a critical power environment.

We are looking for someone who puts safety first, works with integrity, and takes pride in delivering high-quality engineering outcomes.

For This Role, We Are Looking For Someone with:

  • Willingness to work in a field-based role and travel extensively within the region
  • Significant field engineering experience
  • Electrical qualifications (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent) or demonstrable industry experience
  • Experience working on electrical plant within power, utilities or industrial environments
  • Knowledge of power electronics, inverters or grid-connected systems (desirable)
  • HV experience or authorisations (desirable)
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings and technical documentation
  • Strong communication skills and a professional approach to client interaction

We are an equal opportunities employer and are committed to developing a diverse workforce and inclusive working environment. We believe diverse perspectives are essential to innovation, problem-solving and long-term success.
