We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Project and Design Engineer to manage the technical execution of contracts and ensure the delivery of innovative, high-quality solutions. This role is pivotal in overseeing the full lifecycle of projects, from concept and design through to manufacturing and installation, while maintaining strict adherence to quality and compliance standards. With a focus on fostering strong client relationships and driving continuous improvement, the position plays a crucial role in aligning technical outputs with business objectives and upholding our reputation for excellence.
JOB PURPOSE
The Project and Design Engineer will manage the full project lifecycle, ensuring the successful delivery of contracts from initial order to installation. This includes creating and reviewing designs, coordinating with clients and internal teams, and overseeing manufacturing and quality assurance processes. By maintaining strong stakeholder relationships and ensuring alignment with commercial and technical objectives, the role drives customer satisfaction and operational excellence.
The engineer will contribute to innovation and continuous improvement, support company growth, and mentor team members to foster collaboration, knowledge sharing, and high-quality outcomes that uphold Clark Door's reputation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Review contract documentation to highlight any potential anomalies between the client's official order documents e.g., the Architect's specification, site drawings and any site surveys in contrast to Clark Door Ltd's (CDL) proposal.
· Visit construction sites if required to survey door openings and surrounding structures.
· Study clients engineering plans and drawings and produce a General Arrangement drawing of the CDL product, with appropriate connection interface details relevant to the building structure.
· With support of an experienced engineering team, present findings and questions prior to submittal of CDL's product design intent to customer.
· Co-ordinate designs with the client's engineering team and/or client's architect on order to obtain drawing approval.
· Liaise with the CDL manufacturing team and installation department to ensure designs are suitable for manufacture and installation.
· Produce and issue detailed fabrication drawings to the CDL production team, and specify welding details for structural components.
· Produce and issue detailed drawings of machined components for sub-contract manufacture (as applicable).
· Understand and produce basic engineering calculations.
· Inspect finished doors and ensure that they are built to specification.
· Liaise with and issue installation instructions to the CDL installation teams.
· Develop and apply personal skills that contribute to effective team-working and be an advocate of promoting quality and excellence in all dealings with customers.
· Be innovative and committed to continuous improvement; putting forward ideas and strategies that contribute to the company's success.
· Become a fully integrated member of the CDL team supporting our collective aims for company growth and development.
OCCASIONAL TASKS
· Participate in product development teams on specific tasks from time to time.
· Liaise with the Installations Supervisor on contracts with difficult fixing arrangements to ensure that the product is correctly installed.
· Produce sales proposal drawings when requested by the Sales Department.
· Update standard drawings when changes are required, update drawing registers and re-issue to all relevant departments.
· Liaise with the Production Manager and Production Team Leader to ensure that any designs proposed can be manufactured within the commercial restraints of the contract.
· Visit customer sites for surveys and client meetings.
· Overseas travel may be required to verify designs following completion of installations.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
All criteria detailed below are essential, unless stated as "D" (desirable).
Education & Qualifications
• HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, or a Mechanical Engineering degree (D), with general knowledge of the engineering industry and designing products into buildings.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D; experience with Inventor 3D, SolidWorks and FEA (all D).
• Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation (D) and membership of a relevant professional association (D).
Experience, Knowledge & Understanding
• Experience as an Engineering Draughtsperson, including Design for Manufacture and project management.
• Practical installation experience of designed equipment (D) and significant customer-facing experience (D).
• Experience working in politicised environments with partners holding differing priorities (D).
Skills
• Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and produce detailed manufacturing drawings, instructions and General Arrangement drawings for client approval.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral), able to translate complex information clearly and work effectively across all organisational levels and with external stakeholders.
• Strong organisational and time-management capability, including independent working within broad guidelines and experience with contractor and budget management.
• Willingness to embrace new challenges, improve organisational and customer outcomes, and demonstrate commercial awareness (D).

Salary: Up to £42 500 D.O.E
Hours of Work: 36.30 hours per week from Monday to Friday.
