Job description

Are you passionate about protecting communities and do you want to help make our environment a better place? If you want the opportunity to make a tangible difference to the environment of 6.2 million people across the West Midlands every day, then this is the role for you.

We're looking for a high performing individual to help shape delivery of outcomes across the West Midlands. As our Environment Planning and Engagement (EPE) Manager you will lead our Executive Coordination Management team and a high-quality Communication and Engagement service for the West Midlands Area and our customers. You will be focussed on the day-to-day running of our business ensuring we make the best use of our resources; understand how we're delivering our priorities and can demonstrate we're efficient and effective.

This role is fundamental to our whole Area Leadership Team, helping to drive integrations across our remit and our West Midlands culture. Your work will be conducted in a high-freedom environment that makes the people you work with fulfilled; focuses on health, safety and wellbeing; embraces inspirational leadership; and supports development.

We are fully committed to having an inclusive workforce to reflect the communities we serve. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share, so please include any information regarding your preferred working arrangements on your application.

As responding to incidents is a central part of what we do, you will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

This is a leadership role so you'll be an active and visible member of the Area Leadership Team (ALT) inside and outside the organisation. You'll role model our leadership behaviours and help to create an inclusive environment where people can be their best.

The successful candidate will work closely with all ALT across the wide range of issues within our remit as well as taking responsibility for their own particularly remit.

Experience/skills required

Skills, abilities and experience:

  • Authentic leader, you'll bring a strong team focus and truly believe great leadership is fundamental to protecting people and the environment.

  • Our people are our strongest asset so you'll demonstrate a passion for developing individuals and teams to be their best, creating an open, inclusive and trusting culture where everyone can be themselves.

  • You'll have excellent stakeholder management skills with a strong customer focus and well-honed influencing skills, working across communities and organisations – public / private and large / small.

  • Our business is complex and integrated, so you'll need to think strategically, spotting links and connections to identify opportunities. But you'll also be able to simplify this ensuring a clear focus on delivering what is most important.

  • As an ambassador for the West Midlands, you will be an inclusive, confident and successful communicator acting as the gateway to the organisation.

Contact and additional information

We value a diverse workforce. We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (B.A.M.E), disabled, female and LGBT+ candidates who are under-represented across our workforce.

Please include information regarding preferred working arrangements on your application.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. The candidate pack provides more information on how you will support this.

This role can be based across any one of our West Midland office locations – Birmingham, Tewkesbury, Shrewsbury, Kidderminster, Lichfield or Stafford.

Interviews will be held on 17 & 18 November 2025 at our Birmingham office, Aqua House 20 Lionel St, B3 1AQ. Reasonable adjustments are allowed upon request.
