Are you passionate about keeping highways safe and well-maintained? Blackpool Council is seeking a dedicated Highway Inspector to join our Highway Asset Management team. This is a hands-on role working as part of a team to inspect, assess, and monitor our public highways to ensure safety and support the Council's highway maintenance strategy.

About the Role

As a Highway Inspector, your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out routine cyclical walked inspections of the public highway in line with local codes of practice.
  • Responding to public and Member enquiries, both in person and by correspondence.
  • Enforcing highway regulations and managing issues that cause public nuisance.
  • Driving to inspection routes and conducting driven inspections as required.
  • Updating condition surveys for all highways assets.
  • Undertaking Highways Act enforcement and liaising with council staff, utilities, and others regarding NRSWA enforcement.
  • Investigating claims relating to tripping, slipping, drainage issues, or subsidence.
  • Attending County Court to act as an expert witness, providing evidence to support the Council's highway maintenance policies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:

  • Understanding of highway maintenance legislation, codes of practice, and asset management principles.
  • Experience with GIS software and other IT systems for data collection and reporting.
  • Experience in highway inspection, condition surveys, and report writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively within a team and independently.
