Head of Product

Leeds, Leeds, United Kingdom GENIO Full time
Hi we're Genio. We make study software that improves your confidence and ability to learn.
  • We're a SaaS scale up and one of the fastest growing tech companies in the North.
  • There's 100+ of us around the UK with our HQ in Leeds.
  • Our software is award-winning and used by 100,000s of students at over 800 universities & colleges worldwide.
  • We're growing so we can achieve our mission to support 1 million students to become better learners by 2026.
About the role

We're looking for a Head of Product to lead, coach, and elevate our product management function, strengthening how we discover, prioritise, and deliver products that drive both learning impact and commercial results.

This is a high-impact role at the heart of our product organisation. You'll work closely with the CPO, Heads of Engineering and UX, and a talented PM team to turn strategy into execution, improve alignment across the company, and help us scale our impact as a Product team and business.

What you'll be responsible for:

Genio has strong product foundations, and we're now maturing how we operate as a multi-product business working within the Product Operating Model (POM). As we grow, we need clearer strategic and commercial alignment, stronger success measures, broader discovery practices and improved communication.

This role exists to provide that clarity and cohesion - tightening alignment, sharpening decision-making, improving effectiveness, and anchoring the organisation in clear, evidence-led choices.

  • Evolve and execute strategy:
  • You'll work with the CPO and PMs to translate the high-level company strategy into squad OKRs and priorities, ensuring alignment with overall company objectives.
  • Coach and grow the product managers:
  • Hold high performance expectations for discovery, experimentation, prioritisation, success metrics and communication. Provide candid, early feedback and manage performance where necessary. Build a culture of curiosity, accountability and pragmatic decision making
  • Ensure commercial alignment:
  • Ensure that you and the PMs have a strong and researched understanding of our target markets, commercial goals and customer needs and translate these inputs into evidence-based prioritisation decisions, aligned with our company vision.
  • Embed learning impact:
  • As a learning company, improving student learning outcomes is what we do. Strengthen our use of learning science (with the help of learning experts) and ensure we embed this into our product development and ways of working.
  • Own OKRs and success metrics:
  • Support the PMs to define meaningful, outcome-driven OKRs. Ensure product success measures (including learning impact and commercial measures) are adopted and used for decisions, bringing clarity to how we measure progress.
  • Partner with Engineering and UX:
  • Work closely with the Heads of Engineering and UX to streamline discovery-to-delivery. Improve visibility of upcoming work and strengthen predictable execution. Foster healthy cross-functional behaviours and shared ownership.
  • Rebuild trust and transparency with execs and beyond:
  • Make prioritisation, decision rationale and product performance visible and accessible. Ensure our broader stakeholders feel informed, involved and confident in Product's direction and judgement.
About you:

We're looking for someone with:

  • A track record in Scale-up Product Leadership: You'll lead and coach SaaS product teams, raising thinking quality, giving candid feedback, and managing performance when needed.
  • Strong Commercial acumen: You'll have a strong understanding of SaaS and B2B2C business models, and how your product decisions will influence key metrics like ACV, retention, expansion, and long-term defensibility.
  • Evidence-led decision-making skills: You'll be fluent in product discovery, analytics, and success metrics. You know how to bring evidence forward early, build testable hypotheses, and make prioritisation totally transparent.
  • Cross-functional leadership: Comfortable partnering closely with Engineering and UX to operate as a unified leadership trio, improving discovery-to-deliver flow and organisation communication.
  • A calm, confident communication style: You'll be able to engage effectively with executives, PMs, and peers, bringing clarity, openness, and confidence to conversations, especially when alignment is unclear or difficult.
  • A pragmatic process mindset: You'll introduce just enough process to create alignment and momentum, not friction—always favouring progress and velocity over striving for perfection.
  • Experience in Education Technology: Familiarity with learner needs, accessibility standards, and education-sector dynamics is highly valuable, and you'll ideally have experience in the EdTech space.

We know that candidates from underrepresented backgrounds often only apply if they meet every single requirement. If this role excites you and you believe you can have impact here, we strongly encourage you to apply, even if your experience doesn't align perfectly with every point.

Salary and benefits:

Up to £105,000 per annum

33 days annual leave (Inclusive of bank holidays)

3 gifted days off at Christmas

Generous individual learning and training allowance

  • Truly flexible hours to suit when you work best

Full home working set up and beautiful collaborative office space

Nomad working policy with family travel insurance

Enhanced 26 weeks maternity and 4 weeks paternity (fully paid)

Health cash plan (from glasses to massages)

6% employer pension contribution

Location:

We have a beautiful office space in Leeds and we love it when we get together to collaborate in person. We typically operate a hybrid way of working, however some of our roles support remote working within the UK, if you live more than 50 miles from the office.

We will discuss ways of working with you at interview however if you have any questions before you apply please reach out to

What to expect next:

We'll review your application and provide a response within 1 week. Even if it's not the news you'd hoped for, we appreciate it's good to know either way.

If we invite you to meet with us for interview, here's an overview of what the process will look like:

  • Screening interview with someone in our Recruitment team (30 minutes).

  • First stage interview discussing the specifics of the role.

  • Final stage interview with a task and culture and values questions.

Ahead of your interview you will receive a confirmation email outlining who you'll be meeting and when, anything you'll need to prepare in advance and any resources we think you might find helpful.
