Quantum Computing Specialist - Leading Investment Bank

I am seeking a Quantum Computing Specialist to explore the frontier of quantum technology in finance. My client is expanding its Data Science & Innovation function and is seeking a Quantum Computing Specialist to help shape its emerging quantum computing initiatives. This is a hands-on, technically focused role, ideal for recent PhD graduates or Master's-level candidates with around two years of experience, offering the opportunity to apply quantum computing knowledge to real-world financial challenges in a greenfield environment.

This is not a purely academic research position, it's a role for a technically minded quantum specialist eager to apply emerging technologies to tangible business challenges and grow within a world-class innovation environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support quantum research and development: Contribute to quantum computing research projects, exploring algorithms, frameworks, and applications with potential impact across the bank.
  • Apply theory to practice: Develop and prototype practical quantum solutions to address complex computational and optimisation problems
  • Collaborate across teams: Work closely with the AI and data science teams on research, internal communications, and training related to emerging quantum technologies.
  • Stay ahead of the curve: Explore advancements in quantum algorithms, hardware platforms, and hybrid quantum–classical approaches, helping the organisation prepare for future quantum advantage.
  • Engage with innovation partners: Collaborate with academic and research institutions to contribute to the wider quantum computing community.

Candidate Profile:

  • Advanced academic background in Quantum Computing, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science (PhD or MSc).
  • Experience (academic or early career) working on quantum algorithms, gate model computing, or hybrid quantum–classical systems.
  • Strong technical and hands-on mindset, comfortable building prototypes, running experiments, and writing code.
  • Familiarity with quantum SDKs (e.g. Qiskit, Cirq, Braket, or PennyLane).
  • Curiosity and adaptability to work in an emerging technology area with limited precedent.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical ideas clearly to non-specialists.

What This Role Offers:

  • The opportunity to work in a greenfield environment, shaping how quantum computing is applied within a global investment bank.
  • A collaborative and forward-thinking team culture, blending AI, data science, and innovation disciplines.
  • The chance to build practical experience at the intersection of quantum technology and real-world finance, with mentorship from experienced technologists and researchers.
  • Exposure to global stakeholders, research partnerships, and cutting-edge innovation initiatives.
