We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Kirkham, as a Personal and Social Development Teacher. This position is offered on a 18-month fixed term part-time basis, working 24.75 hours per week.

This is a fixed-term 18-month contract to cover maternity leave, teaching Personal and Social Development subjects including Mentoring, Business and Life Skills. Part-time to include 3 full days.

Site Information

HMP Kirkham is based in the village of Kirkham, Lancashire. It operates as a Cateogry D prison and supports a male population. The team's aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or commit to work
  • towards within a specified timeframe (Applies to Teachers in YOI only)
  • Creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Achievement of quality targets
  • Producing accurate and timely reports
