FreeUKGEN is entering an exciting phase, with several major projects moving forward. We're looking for a volunteer who can help us keep all these strands connected supporting planning, communication, and smooth delivery across our teams and committees.
What difference will you make?
We are in an exciting period of change, with a new strategy to take us to the end of the decade and new projects launching soon. Offering your support would have a wide-reaching impact on hundreds of volunteers and family history researchers.
This role will make a real difference by helping us work more smoothly and collaboratively across our many projects and volunteer teams. By keeping plans connected, improving communication, and ensuring we stay focused on what matters most, the Programme Manager will help us make better use of our volunteers' time and talents. Their support will strengthen how we deliver new services like FreeBMD2 and FreePRO, helping us reach more people, improve data quality, and ensure our charity continues to provide free, reliable family history resources for everyone.

What You'll Bring
We'd love to hear from you if you have some of the following
- Experience helping to coordinate multiple projects or teams (professionally or voluntarily).
- A practical, organised approach happy to use tools like Google Docs, GitHub, or shared calendars.
- Confidence to communicate across different groups technical, transcription, and governance.
- An interest in family history, open data, or digital volunteering would be a bonus.
- A friendly, steady presence who can listen, connect people, and keep things moving forward.

What will you be doing?
You won't be doing everything yourself, but helping others work together keeping an eye on how projects link up, where help is needed, and what will make the biggest difference for our volunteers and users.
You'll work closely with our project leads, coordinators, and trustees to
- Keep the big picture in view help us plan and review progress across projects, spotting overlaps, risks, and opportunities.
- Bring people together coordinate meetings, keep shared notes and plans up to date, and make sure everyone knows what's next.
- Support good communication ensure information flows easily between project teams, committees, and trustees.
- Encourage smooth delivery help teams set realistic goals, track milestones, and celebrate progress.
- Look after learning and improvement capture what's working well, and suggest simple ways we can do things better.
- Champion volunteers help make sure new and existing volunteers feel supported, included, and able to contribute effectively.
- Support accessibility and quality keep an eye on user experience and data quality, and flag any issues or ideas for improvement.
