Saint Peters, Kent, United Kingdom East Kent Colleges Group Full time

East Kent Colleges Group seeks diverse, passionate individuals for its Governing Body and Local College Boards. Help shape Further Education and community impact. Flexible time commitment; see job description for details.

What difference will you make?

By joining EKC Group's Governing Body or Local College Board, the candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of education across East Kent. Their unique experience and perspective will help strengthen leadership decisions, champion community needs, and ensure the organisation remains resilient, inclusive, and responsive. Ultimately, they'll contribute to improving student outcomes, driving innovation, and enhancing the social and economic prosperity of the region.

What are we looking for?

Candidates should bring strong strategic thinking and the ability to help shape the Group's priorities, along with analytical skills to interpret data and support evidence-based decisions. They should be confident communicators who ask insightful questions and challenge constructively, while also being good listeners open to diverse perspectives. No prior governance experience is required; instead, EKC Group values enthusiasm, empathy, reliability, and a genuine desire to contribute to educational and community prosperity. Backgrounds in areas like business, public service, community work, or lived experience are welcome, but what matters most is a commitment to improving outcomes for learners and families across East Kent.

What will you be doing?

About The Role
East Kent Colleges Group (EKC Group) has grown rapidly in recent years, and we're now inviting motivated individuals from diverse backgrounds to join our Governing Body and Local College Boards (LCBs). If you're passionate about Further Education and committed to enhancing the social and economic wellbeing of local communities, we'd love to hear from you.

Governors and LCB members play a critical role in maintaining the Group's resilience, innovation, and excellence. As part of a balanced team, you'll provide external insights, challenge assumptions, and help shape strategic direction. You'll bring enthusiasm, skills, and experience from other areas of life to support senior leadership and ensure the Group delivers high-quality outcomes.

Time commitments vary depending on the board's activities. Involvement may include attending meetings, strategic planning, training, conferences, award ceremonies, and community events. Full details are in the job description.

What's In It For You
Volunteering as a Governor or LCB member is a rewarding way to give back to your community, meet new people, and help improve lives through education. You'll strengthen transferable skills, build networks, and develop your understanding of the education system. For those with limited experience, full training is available.

What We're Looking For
We seek individuals who

  • Think strategically and help shape priorities
  • Listen actively and value diverse viewpoints
  • Set clear expectations for leadership
  • Can analyse and interpret information
  • Ask thoughtful questions and challenge constructively

No formal experience is required—just a willingness to share your unique perspective and help strengthen opportunities for learners in East Kent. If you're over 18 and ready to make a difference, we welcome your application. We believe that a diverse governing body is one of our greatest strengths.

EKC Group operates both a full Governing Body and LCBs across its six colleges, each contributing to the organisation's ongoing success. Day after day, our work impacts individuals, businesses, and communities throughout the region.
