Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Cambridge Consultants Full time £25,000 - £35,000 per year

Introduction
This role would suit a bright engineering student who is studying mechanical engineering and is interested in joining our Healthcare business for a year long placement.

The Mechanical Engineering Department is looking for an engineering intern with strong practical and analytical skills.  Working in the Healthcare business, you will use your engineering skills at all stages of the development life-cycle in project teams with our experienced engineers, biologists, physicists and designers.  You will take responsibility for design challenges and technical problems, participating in concept generation, research, design and testing. This internship is an opportunity to experience projects in all areas of medical technology at all the different stages of product development.

Successful candidates can join us between May-September 2026.
There is no deadline for this role, as we recruit on a rolling basis. Once the position is filled, we will close the advert. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

The role and what you'll be doing
You will work within a team of highly talented, multi-disciplinary engineers on major development projects, applying your practical and analytical abilities to realise novel medical technologies for our clients around the globe. You will participate in projects covering all stages of the development life-cycle, applying novel technologies in the field of medical device development.  You will have the opportunity to create exciting cutting-edge technology in areas such as life sciences, drug delivery, surgical and acute care, bioinnovation and digital health.

You will be using your strong technical skills to make a significant contribution to development projects, from initial concepts through to final delivery. Throughout the year, you are likely to work on a range of projects and there will be opportunities to take part in activities such as concept generation, rapid prototyping, and preparation of technical reports and other high-quality documentation. By working alongside our experienced project staff, you will learn how to perform analysis of engineering designs, how to design and develop test rigs, and how to design and execute experimental test programmes.

We also typically run a range of development projects staffed by teams of interns, in which you are tasked with developing a selected project proposal as far as possible in 6 months. This will give you the invaluable opportunity to drive the direction of the project, experience key project milestones and present your finished work to the company.

What you can bring
A successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • An excellent academic record while studying toward a relevant engineering degree
  • A solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and strong technical skills
  • A genuine passion for solving problems through engineering
  • A creative approach to problem-solving and concept generation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Please ensure your CV includes your A Level (or equivalent) subjects and grades, as well as any relevant university modules.

Covering statements are advantageous though by no means a necessity.
