We're looking for a talented, grounded and passionate Sous or Senior Sous Chef to join our small but mighty kitchen at Artist Residence Penzance - someone who loves cooking great, hearty, seasonal food and wants the opportunity to step up into a Head Chef role once the shoulder season passes.
If you're reliable, upbeat, hands-on and love creating food with soul (without the ego or drama), this could be the perfect next step.
The Role
As Sous / Senior Sous Chef, you will be an essential part of running our kitchen day-to-day - especially as we move towards reopening more services and heading into a busy season. You will:
- Support the current Chef and owners across all services
- Confidently run services solo during quieter months
- Lead the kitchen during busy weekends and peak seasons
- Cook delicious, rustic, freshly made food in our open kitchen
- Take responsibility for cleanliness, EHO compliance and an organised kitchen
- Manage prep, ordering, and stock with efficiency and minimal wastage
- Help deliver our smokehouse dishes and garden events in summer (BBQs, feasts, paella nights)
- Bring positive energy and help create a warm, friendly, neighbourhood vibe
This role has clear potential to evolve into Head Chef once we fully reopen services and hit the busier months - ideal for someone hungry for the next step.

We're looking for someone who is:
- A confident, skilled Sous or Senior Sous Chef
- Passionate about rustic, hearty, flavour-driven food
- Warm, friendly, calm and no ego
- A natural team player who can also work independently
- Reliable, organised and strong on kitchen systems
- Clean, tidy and absolutely committed to high EHO standards
- Excited to work in a fun, friendly neighbourhood venue
- Happy to work evenings, weekends and split shifts (you must live nearby)
- Ready to step up and take ownership when required
