The Hospice at Home service cares for patients across Cambridgeshire who choose to remain in their own home in their last weeks of life. We are holistic in our approach and the care is tailored to each person's specific needs. The compassionate team of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants provides practical and holistic care supporting patients and their families in their homes.

We now have an opportunity for a Community Sister / Charge Nurse (Band 6) to join us in a permanent role, at our hospice in Cambridge and covering Cambridge City, South Cambridgeshire and Ely. This is a part time role working 32 hours per week.

The service runs 7 days a week and colleagues will join us and work on a rota basis to support this.

This role will work within the Hospice at Home team to provide expert knowledge and skills in the provision of palliative and end of life care, ensuring the highest standards of care are received by patients and their families in their own home. The role will also support by mentoring and line managing Band 2, 3 and 5 colleagues.

Main duties to include:

  • Facilitating the holistic assessment, treatment and evaluation of patient care
  • Ensuring high standards of care are achieved and maintained
  • Line management and mentoring band 2, 3 and 5 colleagues
  • Co-ordinating, managing and allocating the Healthcare Assistant teams, ensuring cover across the Hospice at home service
  • Working flexibly across the community palliative caseload with Community Palliative Clinical Nurse Specialist and assess patients at home if required.

To be successful in this role, candidates must be a NMC Registered Nurse, have a relevant post graduate qualification (or equivalent experience) along with evidence of continued professional development. Previous experience working post registration as a Band 5, along with a knowledge and understanding of palliative and end of life care is also required.

Due to the nature of the role, it is a requirement to hold a UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.

This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS with Adult and Children's Barred list check.

Starting salary of £38,682 with opportunities to progress to £46,580

Please note that the salary quoted is based on full time hours and will be pro-rata'd for part time posts. As a Charity with limited funds, it is usual practice for new starters to commence on the minimum of the salary band for the role. Exceptionally, and only for candidates demonstrating significant strengths relevant to the role, we may be able to negotiate on this.
