Account Manager (Transportation)
to support and grow our client base.

Role Overview

This role is split
50% account management and 50% new business development
. The Account Manager will manage and grow existing high-value transportation accounts including one of MetDesk's most significant public-sector clients, while also identifying and securing new business opportunities within the sector.

The role focuses on selling MetDesk's existing suite of weather intelligence solutions, including SaaS platforms, data services, operational forecasting services and consultancy support.

Key Responsibilities

Account Management (50%)

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for major transportation clients, ensuring service quality, retention and growth.
  • Develop and nurture strong, long-term client relationships with operational teams, managers and senior stakeholders.
  • Respond to daily client queries relating to weather information, operational impacts and MetDesk services.
  • Stay ahead of routine client needs and recurring requests, anticipating requirements before they arise.
  • Collaborate with internal forecasting, product and support teams to deliver high-quality services and solutions.
  • Produce client reports, working closely with internal teams to ensure accuracy and clarity.
  • Document client meetings through detailed and actionable minutes, tracking follow-ups and agreed actions.
  • Coordinate and schedule client meetings, including regular monthly onsite visits.
  • Attend and support client training sessions, workshops and industry conferences as required.
  • Maintain clear, consistent and proactive communication with both clients and internal teams.

New Business Development (50%)

  • Identify, prospect and secure new opportunities across the transportation sector, including rail, highways, logistics and infrastructure.
  • Develop and maintain a strong pipeline using CRM tools, ensuring accurate forecasting and reporting.
  • Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation to qualification, proposal, negotiation and closing.
  • Prepare quotations and proposals for new business opportunities, tailored to client requirements and sector needs.
  • Deliver compelling presentations and demonstrations to prospective and existing clients (online and in-person).
  • Represent MetDesk at industry events, exhibitions, conferences and client meetings across the UK.
  • Work closely with product and operational teams to help shape solutions that meet customer challenges and stand out in the market.

The Person

Essential Qualities

  • Proven experience managing large or complex accounts, ideally within public-sector or transportation environments.
  • Strong understanding of how weather affects transportation networks, operational planning and resilience.
  • Track record of achieving targets in account management and business development roles.
  • Confident presenting to senior stakeholders with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organised, efficient and detail-focused, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams.
  • Strong relationship-builder able to establish trust with both clients and internal teams.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with a positive approach and a commitment to delivering high standards.

Desirable

  • Experience in SaaS, data platforms, digital solutions or operational services—especially in safety-critical or regulated sectors.
  • Meteorological knowledge or experience working in weather-sensitive markets.
  • Experience with CRM systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Degree-educated or equivalent professional experience.
