The Cancer Research UK & UCL Cancer Trials Centre (CTC), established in 1996, is one of the UK's largest academic cancer trials centres. The UCL Cancer Institute hosts over £100 million in grant income, 50 scientific group leaders, 32 clinical scientists, and 50 honorary clinical consultants. It is internationally recognised and part of the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre network.

About the role

We are seeking to appoint either a Senior Research Fellow or a Principal Research Fellow to join the UCL Cancer Institute. The successful candidate will contribute to research aligned with the NIHR University College London Hospitals Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) priorities, which include:

  • Cancer Immunotherapy
  • Early Diagnosis of Cancer
  • Tumour Heterogeneity and Targeted Therapy
  • Improving Therapeutic Index in Non-Chemotherapy Treatments

  • Senior Research Fellow: You will develop research projects and be supported to secure fellowship funding and establish a world-leading research group.
  • Principal Research Fellow: You will lead an independent research group, provide academic leadership, and mentor both laboratory scientists and research-active clinicians.
About you

Senior Research Fellow candidates should:

  • Hold a PhD in a relevant field aligned with BRC priority areas
  • Demonstrate excellent research outputs
  • Show evidence of influence and networking in their field
  • Be capable of securing independent funding

Principal Research Fellow candidates should meet the above criteria and additionally:

  • Demonstrate leadership in a research area aligned with BRC priorities
  • Have experience mentoring junior researchers and clinicians.

Selection Process

The in-person selection process will consist of two stages:

  • Presentation/Talk

    Delivered to the Cancer Institute research community.

  • Interview

These are expected to take place over two days in early or mid-December. Exact dates will be confirmed with shortlisted applicants as soon as possible.
