Job Title: Pot Washer / Kitchen Assistant

Location: Bilingual Day Nursery Ashby

Reports to: Nursery Chef / Nursery Manager

Hours: minimum of 5 hours per week - opportunity for more in breakfast club role

Salary: from £7.55-£12.21 dependent on age

Job Purpose

To maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene within the nursery kitchen by washing dishes, utensils, and equipment, supporting the kitchen team with basic duties, and helping ensure safe and efficient meal service for children.

Key Responsibilities

Kitchen & Dishwashing

  • Wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment following nursery hygiene procedures.
  • Ensure all items are cleaned, dried, and stored correctly and safely.
  • Keep dishwashing area clean, tidy, and organised at all times.
  • Operate dishwashing equipment safely and report any faults.

Cleaning & Hygiene

  • Maintain exceptional hygiene standards in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Clean work surfaces, sinks, floors, and kitchen appliances as required.
  • Empty bins regularly and manage recycling and waste disposal safely.
  • Assist with daily, weekly, and deep-cleaning schedules.

Kitchen Support

  • Assist the nursery cook/chef with simple food preparation tasks when needed (e.g., peeling vegetables, preparing snacks).
  • Ensure correct handling and storage of food deliveries.
  • Follow all health & safety and food hygiene policies, including allergen awareness.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Good understanding of basic hygiene and cleanliness standards.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to follow instructions.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to support the kitchen and nursery team.

Desirable

  • Experience in a kitchen or cleaning role.
  • Basic food hygiene training (or willingness to complete).
  • Understanding of allergen safety procedures.

Additional Information

  • The role involves standing for long periods and some light-to-moderate lifting.
  • Enhanced DBS check will be required due to the childcare environment, which will then be put onto the update service.
  • Training and uniform provided by the nursery.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: £7.55-£12.21 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 5 per week
