Your role and responsibilities
- Your day-to-day responsibilities will include responding to planning consultations on behalf of the Local Highway Authority that will involve liaising with a variety of people, internally and externally, to agree design principles for new development.
- You will work to secure infrastructure improvements to mitigate the impact of development using your skills and experience of highways and planning.
- You will play a key role in enhancing accessibility for all in Suffolk.
- You will also support colleagues with developing town wide transport plans including proposals for suitable schemes in those locations.
- You will manage the work of Transport Planning Engineers and Technicians and assist with their development.
You will need
- passion for promoting high standards of sustainable transport in new developments by influencing a wide audience as to the benefits for the people of Suffolk
- high level understanding of all aspects of highway design and construction and relevant sections of the Highway Act
- significant experience in interpreting complex transport assessments and responding to developers/consultants
- capability of representing the team at meetings with internal and external organisations (as appropriate) to provide expert advice in area of work, sometimes in challenging circumstances.

The team
- The Transport Planning Teams forms part of the Transport Strategy team, helping to deliver growth across Suffolk
- This includes, Development Management, ensuring new developments are sustainable in highway terms to support Suffolk's growth ambitions.
- Securing funding, and the delivery of new transport infrastructure and initiatives, including active travel.
- You will be part of a team that works together to provide comments on the suitability of new development in highway terms to local planning authorities.
