Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Rowena Garden Centre is a busy, established garden centre with ambitious expansion plans, including a plans being submitted to double the size of the site. We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Garden Centre Manager to lead the operation, drive standards, and play a key role in shaping the future of the business.

The Role

As Garden Centre Manager, you will take overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the garden centre, ensuring excellent retail standards, strong team leadership, and a high-quality customer experience across all departments. You will oversee seasonal planning, outdoor and indoor plant areas, merchandising, and staffing, while preparing the centre for significant future growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full responsibility for the daily operation of the garden centre
  • Lead, manage, and develop the team, including recruitment, rotas, training, and performance management
  • Oversee horticultural and retail standards across indoor and outdoor areas
  • Plan and deliver seasonal layouts, displays, and stock changes throughout the year
  • Ensure plants and products are correctly cared for, presented, and maintained to a high standard
  • Manage stock levels, ordering, availability, and waste control
  • Maintain excellent customer service, ensuring a welcoming and knowledgeable environment
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety, plant care requirements, and retail procedures
  • Work closely with senior management on site development, layout changes, and future expansion plans

About You

  • Proven experience as a Garden Centre Manager, Assistant Manager, or senior department manager
  • Strong knowledge of garden centre retail, seasonal trading, and merchandising
  • Confident people leader with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team
  • Commercially aware, organised, and hands-on
  • Comfortable managing both indoor and outdoor retail environments
  • Passion for horticulture, gardening, and creating an inspiring retail space
  • Formal horticultural qualifications are beneficial but not essential
