Department Description

The Global Leadership, Learning & Development team is part of the firm's People function and supports the delivery of the People strategy across each of the firm's regions (Americas, APAC and EMEA) through a range of global, regional, and local development programmes, workshops, e-learning, and other career development activities.

Role Overview

The Learning and Development Adviser will support the design and delivery of live programmes and virtual instructor-led programmes for senior lawyers. They will be responsible for planning, organising logistics, updating materials and hosting the programmes as well as communicating with participants and faculty.

This role will closely collaborate with the Leadership, Learning & Development team across the globe and will provide the opportunity to facilitate workshops for junior and associate lawyers.

Key Responsibilities / Accountabilities

  • Work with the relevant EMEA Learning & Development Manager to develop, plan, coordinate and deliver in-person milestone programmes and core professional workshops for lawyers across the EMEA region.
  • Take the lead on coordinating all aspects of the programme event logistics (including liaising with other services such as facilities management, hotels, restaurants, etc.) and managing the running of the in-person and virtual elements of the programmes, making sure that everything runs smoothly (including evening events).
  • Supervise the Learning and Development Coordinator assigned to the programme, ensuring that all their coordination and administration tasks are completed adequately.
  • Create and update agendas, timetables, session planners and facilitation materials.
  • Brief the project team on their duties and responsibilities during the programme.
  • Communicate effectively with participants and contributors (internal and external), including partner sponsors, other contributing partners and coaches
  • Build and maintain strong relationships and collaborate with key internal stakeholders and various Hogan Lovells departments.
  • Source and book external event locations and service providers in line with budget and programme needs.
  • Manage the budget for the programme and liaise with the accounts department in regard to suppliers' invoices and payments.
  • Gather, review and evaluate the feedback received on the programme to continuously improve content and delivery methods. 

Other responsibilities:

  • Support other EMEA development programmes in the UK according to capacity
  • Track and oversee programme costs and contribute to the annual budget process
  • Keep up to date with the latest trends and best practices in learning and development, proposing new topics and innovative approaches for programmes and other development initiatives
  • Be a point of contact for learning and development queries

Specific duties or responsibilities may be reviewed from time to time to reflect changes in personnel and management structure, staff location or services.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Training

  • Several years' experience of working in a professional services environment in a Learning and Development role.
  • Professional certification in learning and development (e.g., CIPD) is desirable
  • A very good knowledge of the MS Office suite of applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and excellent IT skills (Teams, Zoom, interactive software for polling, quizzes etc.) Familiar with LMS systems such as CSOD or similar.
