Job Description

Please Note - Role can be hybrid or remote, subject to location

At NEC Software Solutions, our Security Architects inspire trust by owning a broad security mandate and supporting day-to-day cyber defence through the design and implementation of security technologies. You will create solutions that underpin NEC's cyber security programme, ensuring compliance with architecture principles and security standards to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient services. Responsibilities include threat modelling, risk assessment, developing security standards that guide consistent practices across the business, and producing security assurance documentation to support formal accreditation.

Collaboration is essential. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to understand their needs and co-create security solutions that meet regulatory and business requirements. Our Security Architects blend strategic design and consultancy with hands-on implementation to ensure robust security controls are the foundation for our software and services.

Experience delivering security architectures for UK Government, Health, or Policing sectors is valuable, and strong practical knowledge of security principles is essential. The ideal candidate will have recent experience designing, implementing, and operating secure technologies and infrastructure, with the ability to develop and maintain security standards and assurance documentation that supports accreditation and drives consistent security practices.

Joining our central architecture team means being part of a diverse community of specialists across enterprise, security, technical, and solution domains offering inspiring opportunities to grow and continuously improve your architecture practice.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Inspire confidence by producing security architecture designs that meet business requirements and align with the overarching architecture framework.
  • Improve assurance by producing high-quality security documentation for internal and customer services.
  • Inspire clarity when presenting security architecture designs to the technical assurance board and supporting assurance processes with specialist knowledge and experience.
  • Be actively involved with other architects across the practice and wider business, collaborating to ensure all designs are secure by default.
  • Stay involved with the cyber security team, providing expertise, responding to security queries and assessing the impact of emerging vulnerabilities and CVEs to ensure remediation actions are appropriate.
  • Inspire trust by supporting application development and product teams with threat and risk assessments, offering advice and guidance to enhance security and privacy in every application or service.
  • Be involved and proactive in supporting bid and sales teams, delivering security architecture expertise and producing security-focused responses for questionnaires and tender documentation.
  • Stay involved in implementation, providing knowledge transfer to support teams and hands-on assistance where needed.
  • Drive innovation by contributing to the technology roadmap, investigating new and existing security technologies and enabling controlled adoption.
  • Continuously improve through ongoing learning, maintaining knowledge of NEC's key security technologies, emerging trends and industry standards to support business innovation through intelligent use of IT.
Qualifications

Essential

  • Proven understanding of security and non-functional requirements and their impact on solution design

  • Demonstrates strong awareness of security ensuring that technical designs provide sufficient protection for workloads
  • Working knowledge of threat modelling methodologies to conduct threat modelling against new applications and services
  • Experience assessing the risk profile of software solutions through formal risk assessment methodologies
  • Familiarity with compliance and security standards across the enterprise IT landscape such as ISO 27001 and NCSC Cyber Essentials as well as industry security requirements such as NIST and CIS
  • Demonstrates a good working knowledge of end user, compute, networking and storage technologies including desktop and server virtualisation technologies, network switches and firewalls, perimeter boundary protection and SANs
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrating a variety of influencing styles to enable effective completion of tasks both individually and within groups
  • Ability to manage concurrent projects employing effective time management skills
  • Desire to undertake self-learning to ensure awareness of emerging technologies and potential security threats

Desirable

  • Experience designing and implementing solutions deployed to a multi-tenanted community cloud platform
