Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Environmental, Health & Safety specialist to join our Office Services team. This role will develop, supervise, and coordinate related aspects of the department and organisation's Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management Systems, ensuring and monitoring compliance with legislation, while promoting Environmental, Health and Safety across the organisation. The HCPC is located in Kennington, this role will be office-based.

About the role
This role supports the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of HCPC's Environmental and Health & Safety Management Systems, with a particular emphasis on environmental compliance, sustainability, and ISO 14001 alignment. The post-holder will contribute to risk assessments, audits, training, legal registers, and strategic environmental initiatives while maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for all HCPC staff, visitors, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and update the organisation's Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with ISO 14001 and applicable UK environmental legislation.
- Lead or support environmental audits, waste and recycling initiatives, carbon reporting, water and energy usage monitoring, and sustainable procurement practices.
- Develop and maintain the environmental aspects and impacts register.
- Monitor contractor compliance with environmental controls (e.g. waste disposal, COSHH, emissions).
- Manage environmental incident investigations and reporting.
- Support the development, review, and communication of Health and Safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Assist in the delivery of inductions, toolbox talks, and compliance training (e.g. DSE, lone working, fire safety).
- Contribute to accident and incident investigations using root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
- Support the EHS Manager with site inspections, audits, emergency drills, and statutory compliance (e.g. RIDDOR, PUWER, COSHH).
- Maintain safety records and contribute to EHS metrics, dashboards, and Service Desk reporting tools.
- Provide EHS input to projects, contracts, and procurement when required.
Candidates Requirements
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Health and Safety, or related discipline.
- NEBOSH Environmental Certificate and NEBOSH General Certificate (or working towards).
- Demonstrable experience in an Environmental or combined EHS role.
• Knowledge of ISO 14001 and UK environmental legislation (e.g. waste, energy, hazardous materials, water). - Working knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and frameworks (e.g. HASAWA 1974, COSHH, RIDDOR).
- Strong analytical, reporting, and audit skills.
- Effective communication skills with ability to influence at all levels.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital safety tools.
