Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience with Network Architecture, Network Configuration, Network Operations, Optical Engineering and Operations, Network Design, Telecommunications, Collaboration, and Decision Making.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in one or more programming languages such as C++, Go, or Python.
  • Experience in telecommunications at a carrier-class scale, with experience in optical networks, DWDM, IP, and data services.
  • Experience defining system or process requirements, building, integrating, or delivering large-scale layer 1, layer 2, or layer 3 network systems.
  • Knowledge of Content Distribution Networks (CDN), IP transit/peering, dark fiber, colocation, optical transport, and cloud technologies and industry processes.
  • Ability to identify, break down, and solve ambiguous and complex process and technical problems that span across many teams and organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the stipulation and documentation of architectural policy and standards across different layers of the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) stack (e.g., L0-L1 mapping, L1-L3 striping rules, etc.). Work cross-functionally to ensure alignment across product, technology, software engineering, and business teams.
  • Drive the development and implementation of hardware life-cycle policies to minimize excess and obsolescence (E&O) while balancing the introduction of new technology to support new functionality, scaling, and unit cost reduction.
  • Develop methodologies to capture architectural and hardware policies in a machine-readable format for consistent and wide integration across the Google Global Infrastructure (GGI) stack.
  • Run designs and perform an automated verification to ensure executability for a given design.
  • Act as a "go-to" Network Engineer (NE) by developing new approaches for integrating different technologies and methods across the organisation.
