About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Full-time Learning Support Assistant to join our team, specializing in Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) support within a secondary school setting. This role is crucial in providing essential support to students with SEMH needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and thrive in their educational journey.



Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEMH needs, tailoring approaches to individual learning styles and requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers and other staff members to develop and implement effective strategies for supporting SEMH students in the classroom.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of a positive, inclusive learning environment that promotes emotional well-being and academic success.
  • Monitor and record student progress, maintaining accurate and up-to-date documentation on interventions and outcomes.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and behavior support plans.
  • Provide emotional support and guidance to students, helping them develop coping strategies and self-regulation skills.
  • Facilitate social skills groups and workshops to enhance students' interpersonal abilities and emotional intelligence.
  • Assist with the implementation of de-escalation techniques and positive behavior management strategies.
  • Liaise with parents, carers, and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to student support.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.


Qualifications and Skills
Essential:
  • Minimum of a Level 3 qualification in a relevant field (e.g., Education, Psychology, or Youth Work)
  • Proven experience working with secondary school students with SEMH needs
  • Strong understanding of SEMH challenges and their impact on learning and behavior
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
  • Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in using technology to support learning and record-keeping
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
Desirable:
  • Degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field
  • Additional qualifications in SEMH support or interventions
  • Experience with specific SEMH interventions (e.g., CBT, mindfulness, or art therapy)
  • Knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and relevant educational policies
  • First aid certification
