Position Vacancy - Maintenance & Internal Grounds Person

Key Aspects of Role

To work in a friendly and supportive team and support the school estate. The role is split between general site maintenance and maintaining internal site grounds.

Reports to: Domestic Bursar

Salary: £24,720 p.a.

Contract: Permanent

Start Date: January 2026

Hours: 40 hours per week to be worked 5 days out of 7 (including selected Saturdays)

Standard hours - 07:00 to 15:00 (Monday - Saturday)

(Overtime payments for this post will be paid at the standard hourly rate)

Location: Read School, Drax, North Yorkshire

Key Responsibilities include:

● Routine planned maintenance tasks as directed by Domestic Bursar covering all buildings within the site.

● Small building projects both planned and unplanned (e.g. upgrading showers, bedrooms or classroom)

● To be jointly responsible for the care and proper use of building maintenance equipment and tools

● Ensure that spares and materials are used in a cost-effective manner

● To undertake all duties in a safe, tidy and responsible manner in accordance with H&S requirements

● To carry out other duties as may be reasonably requested from time to time by site management

● Maintain & cut all internal lawns and grounds using equipment provided

● Maintain & strim all lawn and grounds edges

● Maintain & cut all internal hedges

● General weeding and leaf collection when required

As a key member of the Read School site team you will be required to adhere to the school's and regulatory safety rules. Always working in a safe manner at all times and play an active part in promoting good safety practices.
