Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Synthetic Biology and Computational Genomics

Oxford, Oxfordshire, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

We are seeking a talented multi-disciplinary scientist to work on an exciting project utilising enhancer biology, to control gene expression in mammalian cells. As part of an interdisciplinary research environment bridging molecular biology, genomics, and computational data science, the post focuses on integrating enhancer biology with large-scale synthetic biology and single-cell multiomic analysis.

You will use state-of-the-art genomics methodologies combined with synthetic biology and Machine learning approaches, to develop novel approaches to express RNA transcripts, cell type specifically. You will be responsible for the generation of epigenomic and transcriptomic dataset, including cutting-edge 3D genome analysis and the generation of a wide range of bespoke expression constructions.

You will hold a PhD (or have thesis submitted at time of application) in molecular biology, genetics, or a related discipline. You will have a strong understanding of chromatin biology, gene regulation and functional genomics with experience in synthetic biology. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to combine experimental and computational approaches to investigate regulatory mechanisms. Experience with mammalian cell systems and lentiviral-based technologies for transgene expression and enhancer analysis is required, together with proficiency in UNIX/Linux environments and a strong ability to code in Python.

The post is available fixed-term until 31 March 2027, funded by the Medical Research Council.

Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your online application.

The closing date for this position is noon on 25 November 2025.
