Become an Unpaid Carers' Champion in Wiltshire
Volunteer Role | Flexible Commitment | Make a Real Difference
Do you have experience as an unpaid carer? Are you passionate about connecting with and supporting others in your community?
Wiltshire Council is looking for a dedicated Unpaid Carers' Champion to join our network in Wiltshire. This voluntary role is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of unpaid carers—those who care for family members, friends, or neighbours without financial compensation.
Your Mission
As a Carers' Champion, your main goal will be to:
- Support unpaid carers in finding and accessing the information and services they need
- Help carers feel connected, valued, and supported in their role
- Enable people to live at home for longer by strengthening the support available to carers
- Champion carers' voices in your local area
What You'll Do
This role is flexible and can be shaped by you. You might:
- Share information about local support groups and benefits
- Attend carer's community events, such as coffee mornings or play group activities
- Connect carers with community resources
- Raise awareness of carers' needs in your area
- Offer a listening ear and signpost to professional help when needed
- Work closely with the Wiltshire Council Engagement and Partnership Lead and the Wiltshire Council Unpaid Carers Commissioner
- Develop a relationship with charities supporting Unpaid Carers in Wiltshire
Who We're Looking For
You don't need formal qualifications—just:
- A genuine interest in supporting unpaid carers
- Good communication and listening skills
- A proactive and compassionate approach
- Local knowledge or lived experience as a carer (past or present)
- At least half a day (3.5 hours) availability within a working week – this can be spread across the week, if required
What You'll Gain
- A chance to make a lasting difference in your community
- Opportunities to develop new skills and build local connections
- Support and guidance from Wiltshire Council commissioning & engagement and partnerships teams
- Paid expenses
