From our facility in South Wales, we provide comprehensive services including vehicle overhauls, heavy maintenance, component repairs and system upgrades to a large proportion of the UK rail fleet. And we have exciting plans to diversify into the wider transport market as part of our growth strategy.

Role responsibilities

We are seeking a Head of Engineering as a head of profession and a key member of the Senior Leadership Team. You'll be responsible for setting the engineering strategy, ensuring technical excellence and overseeing all engineering support to Operations. Reporting directly into the Managing Director, the post holder will have a small number of direct reports, and will align engineering capability with the company's strategic objectives and long-term growth plans.

You will ensure that engineering activities meet statutory, regulatory and customer standards, while driving innovation, continuous improvement and operational performance. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Safety & Ethics
    – Support the implementation of the Pullman Rail Limited Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) strategy, associated actions and resulting initiatives, to deliver continuous improvement.
  • Quality & Compliance
    – Ensure high service quality by strategically planning engineering resources, integrating regulatory requirements into operations, and leading the Engineering team to support production and projects.
  • Delivery
    – Ensure efficient, profitable work that delivers high-quality, on-time, and on-budget products and services, strengthening customer value and relationships.
  • People
    – Champion respect, inclusion, and diversity; empower the engineering team to excel through development, collaboration, and innovation.

Who we're looking for

  • A Chartered Engineer (or equivalent professional registration) with demonstrable experience in a senior technical leadership role, ideally within the traction and rolling stock industry.
  • Someone with a strong understanding of regulatory and industry frameworks (for example, RISAS, ISO ROGS) who is able to lead, influence and collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to develop strategies and programmes.
  • Sound knowledge and demonstrable experience of process engineering and continuous improvement, with demonstrable experience of enhancing customer value.
  • A mentor and coach able to develop the engineering team to support professional and organisational growth.

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would make a great addition to your application, but it is not essential for this role.
