What will you be doing?
This Graduate Preconstruction Engineer role focuses on turning client needs into fully considered, costed and buildable solutions that set projects up for successful delivery, with a particular emphasis on mechanical and electrical.
- You will take client Statements of Need and develop them into outline schemes, supporting Target Cost development and finalisation.
- You will interpret engineering drawings and create specifications for Mechanical and Electrical Design Teams, ensuring systems are properly integrated into preconstruction plans.
- You will help prepare and coordinate governance and Business Management System (BMS) documentation so that proposals are technically robust, commercially sound and fully auditable.
- Working closely with our Engineering Services team, Project Managers and key supply chain partners, you will support outline design development for mechanical and electrical installations, buildability reviews and risk mitigation, while obtaining budget quotations from specialist M&E subcontractors and building up costing profiles for preconstruction estimates and submissions.
- Review and ensure M&E design and building services installations comply with latest works information and other technical standards documentation, requesting clarification or proposing changes when required.
- Assist in maintaining quality records, ensuring all M&E works are considered and costed in accordance with both industry technical standards and aligned to specific clients technical standards for mechanical and electrical systems.
- Assist in basic planning, monitoring & programming of M&E installation sequences.
- Control and minimise waste on site, particularly with electrical components and mechanical materials.
- Identify/assist in introducing new processes, techniques and innovations on site, including energy-efficient and low-carbon solutions for building services.
This role is available for a September 2026 start, with the possibility of an earlier start date to suit yourself and the business.
As part of the graduate programme you will be expected to work in and around the location advertised, with the possibility for expanding travel to other projects and locations in the future. This may include staying away from home.

- A starting salary of £29,500

What are we looking for?
We invite applications from graduates who are passionate about the industry and have achieved, or are on track to achieve a Bachelors or Masters degree in mechanical or electrical engineering(or similar) prior to September 2026.
A full UK driving licence (or currently learning, you will be expected to have obtained a Full UK Driving Licence by 7th September 2026) and the eligibility to live and work in the UK without restriction is essential for this role.
