The company is based in Long Eaton, near Nottingham, in the factory we have occupied for the best part of a century. We continue to draw on the traditional clothing techniques and expertise of the Nottingham area where the company was founded back in 1860. We also have offices in London, where the marketing, online and wholesale team reside.

Knitwear Garment Technologist (Long Eaton)The Knitwear Garment Technologist will play a pivotal role in translating design concepts into impeccably executed knitwear products. Working closely with design, product development, and our global supply base, you will ensure the highest standards of construction, fit, performance, and quality across all knit categories. You will apply technical expertise to optimise manufacturing efficiency while maintaining the brand's luxury standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Development & Technical Engineering
- Partner with designers from initial concept through to production to ensure designs are technically feasible and aligned with brand standards.
- Develop accurate and comprehensive technical packs, including measurements, construction details, and finishing specifications.
- Advise on yarn selection, gauge, knitting techniques, and stitch structures to achieve the desired aesthetic and performance.
- Conduct risk assessments for new styles and propose technical solutions or alternatives.
Fit & Construction
- Lead fit sessions on live models, mannequins, or avatars; record, analyse, and communicate clear fit comments and amendments to suppliers.
- Own the sample approval process across all development stages, ensuring consistency and precision in grading, proportions, and drape.
- Maintain and evolve blocks, standards, and size sets for all knitwear categories.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure all knitwear pieces meet brand quality and performance standards, including fabric stability, pilling resistance, hand feel, and durability.
- Approve lab dips, shade bands, yarn tests, and fabric performance reports.
- Troubleshoot garment issues—from shrinkage and distortion to seam failure—and implement preventative solutions.
Supplier & Production Management
- Collaborate with global suppliers and factories, building strong technical relationships.
- Communicate clear technical guidance and maintain accountability to timelines and quality expectations.
- Monitor production samples, pre-production (PP) samples, to ensure consistency with approved standards.
Process & Innovation
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, enhancing processes around fit, construction, sustainability, and efficiency.
- Stay informed about innovations in yarns, technologies, knitting machinery, and sustainable practices particularly relevant to luxury knitwear.
- Support sustainability goals by recommending eco-conscious fibres, finishes, and construction techniques.
Skills & Experience:
Essential
- 3–5+ years of experience in a knitwear technical or garment technology role, ideally within a premium or luxury brand.
- Strong knowledge of fully fashioned, whole-garment, and cut-and-sew knitwear production.
- Deep technical understanding of knitting machinery (e.g., Stoll, Shima Seiki), yarn behaviour, gauges, and knit structures.
- Excellent fit, pattern, and grading knowledge specific to knitwear.
- Experience working directly with overseas factories and suppliers.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical language across teams.
- Proficient in PLM systems, technical design software, and Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of sustainability standards, certifications, and luxury fibre sourcing.
