Overview

We are partnering with a respected engineering organisation seeking a skilled Thermal Engineer to join their team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, analysing, and optimising thermal systems to ensure effective heat transfer, temperature control, and system reliability. This role requires the application of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer principles to develop robust solutions across a range of advanced engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform thermal modelling, simulations, and analyses using tools such as ANSYS, Thermal Desktop, COMSOL, or MATLAB.

  • Develop and optimise thermal control systems, including heat exchangers, cooling loops, insulation, and both passive and active thermal management solutions.

  • Conduct detailed assessments of thermal performance at component, subsystem, and system level.

  • Design and evaluate thermal interfaces, materials, and hardware (e.g. radiators, heat sinks, cold plates).

  • Translate system requirements into precise thermal design specifications, ensuring compliance with industry standards.

  • Develop and execute thermal test plans, including environmental testing, thermal cycling, and thermal vacuum tests.

  • Analyse test data and correlate results with models to validate and refine designs.

  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and systems engineering teams to integrate thermal solutions effectively.

  • Prepare detailed documentation, reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Support troubleshooting and root cause analysis of thermal issues during development, qualification, and production phases.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree and professional experience in Thermal Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics.

  • Proficiency with thermal analysis and simulation software.

  • Experience with data analysis and engineering test instrumentation.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for conveying complex technical information clearly.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience in electronics cooling, battery thermal management, or energy systems.

  • Experience with thermal vacuum testing or environmental qualification testing.

  • Familiarity with systems engineering or reliability engineering methodologies.
