Who are we?

Howden is a collective – a group of talented and passionate people all around the world. Together, we have pushed the boundaries of insurance. We are united by a shared passion and no-limits mindset, and our strength lies in our ability to collaborate as a powerful international team comprised of 18,000 employees spanning over 100 countries.

People join Howden for many different reasons, but they stay for the same one: our culture. It's what sets us apart, and the reason our employees have been turning down headhunters for years. Whatever your priorities – work / life balance, career progression, sustainability, volunteering – you'll find like-minded people driving change at Howden.

The Role

We now have an exciting opportunity to join us on a permanent basis as a Senior Policy Technician for our Financial Lines team. The team is part of Howden's Specialty business, and the position is home-based with one day per week in the London office.

At Howden Senior Policy Technicians provide technical and administrative support across the broking team with their interactions with clients, producing brokers and underwriters, specifically providing assistance with the production of policy/cover documentation. The Policy Technician will work in conjunction with other members of the broking team to build documentation that is legally compliant and meets business requirements.

This role has come about due to growth across the Financial Lines business and will serve increased demand for policy technician services. We're therefore seeking a strong candidate with prior technical expertise and a well-rounded understanding of the London Insurance market.

What you'll do

  • Assist in the creation of comprehensive broking, client and other types of documents.

  • Checking of slips, quotes and indications to ensure accuracy.

  • Ensure up to date records are always maintained on the Company systems for the teams.

  • Interpret instructions and issues arising, and then implement actions according to policies and procedures.

  • Produces reports / MI to inform decision-making and actions.

  • Retain a high level of knowledge of policy wording / requirements to provide advice and guidance.

  • Utilises specific references and systems, for example CRYTSAL+ AXCO and TMF to ensure policy wording e.g. in relation to territory specific tax and legislative environments are adequately understood and appropriate.

Who we're looking for

  • Experience in a similar role is needed, which is likely to be as a policy technician, wordings technician or account handler.

  • Knowledge of financial lines products (D&O, PI, BBB, Cyber) preferred but not essential.

  • Good technical knowledge of FCA regulations as they pertain to insurance intermediaries.

  • Excellent understanding of processes and procedures within the insurance market.

  • Excellent understanding of MRC v3 and MRCE.

  • Attention to detail with ability to produce accurate documentation.

  • Ability to work optimally within a team and answer queries from a variety of colleagues.

  • Prioritisation and interpersonal skills.

  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and use initiative.

  • GCSE's (or equivalent) including English and Maths crucial.

  • A level Grade A-C (or equivalent).

  • Progression towards gaining professional qualifications is desired, but not essential (CII).

What do we offer in return?

A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we're looking for individuals who share the same values as us:

  • Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new

  • We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges

  • We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond

Reasonable adjustments

We're committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs.  Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours* or hybrid working*.

If you're excited by this role but have some doubts about whether it's the right fit for you, send us your application – if your profile fits the role's criteria, we will be in touch to assist in helping to get you set up with any reasonable adjustments you may require.

*Not all positions can accommodate changes to working hours or locations. Reach out to your Recruitment Partner if you want to know more.
