Location: The Portland Hospital for Women & Children, Great Portland Street, London.

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week between Monday-Friday

Shifts:  Long days, Nights & Weekends

A unique opportunity has arisen for a Health Care Assistant, with previous Paediatric Intensive Care Unit experience, to join the PICU service at The Portland Hospital

The Portland Hospital, currently rated "Good" by the CQC, is the UK's only private hospital dedicated to the healthcare needs of women and children. Our modern, 14-bed PICU has been operational since November 2011 and offers cutting-edge treatment using the latest technology, supported by a specialised team of Consultant Paediatric Intensivists 24/7, ensuring our team has all the tools they need to deliver truly exceptional care.

The Senior Healthcare Assistant is responsible for carrying out a range of assigned tasks as part of the clinical team in support of registered nurses and to undertake some aspects of care provision with direct supervision. A key part of the role includes managing materials, equipment, and stock within the unit, which requires strong organisational and communication skills to ensure resources are maintained and available to support patient care.

The successful applicant should be highly motivated with good interpersonal skills and be able to work under pressure and work well within the team. They should have a keen desire to provide and maintain a high standard of care at all times. Under the supervision of a registered nurse, they will assist the Ward/Department team in providing the highest possible standard of care for patients and their families.

What you'll bring:   

  • NVQ level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care and/or The Care Certificate (essential)
  • Experience working as a Healthcare Assistant within a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (essential)
  • Excellent customer care skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Evidence of time management skills and ability to prioritise 
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player under appropriate supervision, and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Knowledge of when to seek advice and refer to a registered care professional
