Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist

Location: Birmingham, UK

Starting Salary: £49,390 per annum

Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (09:00–17:00)

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist to join a forward-thinking mental health organisation supporting adults with severe and enduring mental health conditions.

The successful candidate will provide professional leadership and supervision to a team of occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and activity coordinators across multiple inpatient and step-down recovery services. In addition to team management, the role includes maintaining a small clinical caseload, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based interventions that promote recovery, independence, and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional leadership, supervision, and performance management for the occupational therapy team.
  • Manage a small clinical caseload, delivering comprehensive assessments, interventions, and evaluations.
  • Oversee the delivery of a structured therapeutic programme of both group and individual sessions tailored to service-user needs.
  • Promote best practice in occupational therapy, ensuring all interventions are person-centred and outcome-focused.
  • Contribute clinical leadership within a multidisciplinary team, supporting integrated recovery pathways and safe community reintegration.
  • Utilise recognised occupational therapy assessment tools such as the MOHOST, and additional assessments based on individual need.
  • Support continuous service improvement and innovation in care delivery.

About You

  • HCPC-registered Occupational Therapist (essential).
  • Experience working with individuals with complex mental health needs.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to motivate and develop a clinical team.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Passion for person-centred care, recovery principles, and quality improvement.
