London Area, United Kingdom British Council Full time £38,820 - £47,303 per year

Senior Internal Communications Manager

The Role:

Our Internal Communications team creates innovative campaigns that connect colleagues with the British Council's strategy and purpose. We aim to inform, engage, influence behaviours, and ultimately drive organisational performance. The team also partners with senior leaders to help them deliver inspiring and impactful communication.

We're looking for someone to provide strategic and hands-on internal communications support for the Cultural Engagement (CE) division's new strategy and major global change projects. You'll play a key role in implementing recommendations from our recent internal communications audit and identifying opportunities to enhance communication channels, content, processes, and leadership communication across the division.

Accountabilities:

The role involves developing a deep understanding of the Cultural Engagement division, its business plan, and the broader organisational context to support strategic and change communication. You will design and deliver internal communication projects that align with the CE strategy, measure their effectiveness, and demonstrate engagement and behavioural impact. Creating compelling written and visual content, maintaining campaign schedules, and ensuring alignment with global and regional communications are essential. The position also requires upholding editorial standards, reinforcing organisational values, and advising senior leaders on effective leadership communication while establishing clear processes and responsibilities. Additionally, you will implement recommendations from the internal communications audit, propose new approaches, manage communication risks, and ensure channels and activities remain consistent with global and regional strategies.

Requirements of the role:

  • Degree or professional qualification in internal communications or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Internal comms experience in a global, matrixed organisation with an understanding of the associated comms challenges
  • Strategic change communication and comms planning methodology, including measurement and analysis
  • Coaching senior leaders in authentic leadership comms
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills
  • Conducting internal comms audits and implementing solutions
  • Professional writing and editing skills
  • Experience of developing creative concepts and putting them into action
  • Channels and events management
